Router as hotspot client for backup

Hi Is there an option to re-configure an Asus Merlin router that currently gets its IP through Ethernet to get the IP from a wireless hotspot (created by my mobile phone) instead?

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

Got it! The Entry in the Dual-WAN settings caused the problem. After enabling dual-wan, deletion of the manual DNS entry there and disabling dual-wan again, it works as it should be :-) Many thanks everyone for help, this was really causing a headache :-)

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

In Dual-WAN settings, I get, which seems to be stuck there. Probably this is the root cause.

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

    Edit: Your hint with the 2 WANs was very good! I have enabled dual wan, and suddenly I get: me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# nvram show 2>/dev/null | grep -F "wan_dns" none_wan_dns=9.9.9.9 149.112.112.112 none_wan_dns1_x=9.9.9.9 none_wan_dns2_x=149.112.112.112 none_wan_dnsenable_x=0...

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

    Some issue with regex, but it seems wan0 is used. me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# nvram show 2>/dev/null | grep -E "wan?_primary" me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# nvram show 2>/dev/null | grep -F "primary" bsd_primary=192.168.1.1 wan0_primary=1 wan1_primary=0 me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root#

It is off, although I remember that I once used it with my Android phone with USB as the ISP had issues.

No, only server on the router.

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

Interestingly enough, the changes in the Webgui are propagated to wan1 and wan, but not to wan0, which seems to be used?! me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# nvram show | grep -F "9.9.9.9" size: 86823 bytes (44249 left) wan1_dns=9.9.9.9 149.112.112.112 wan1_dns1_x=9.9.9.9 wan_dns=9.9.9.9...

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

No Dual-WAN to is active or used. I rebooted the device, /etc/resolv.conf again contains 1.0.0.2 as well as NVRAM. Then I changed the settings as described (+ added Quad to DNS over TLS), no change in file or nvram. After reboot, still no change. nslookup always uses the 1.0.0.2, although...

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

    Thanks! Here we go, directly from nvram: me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# nvram show 2>/dev/null | grep -F "1.0.0.2" wan0_dns=1.0.0.2 5.9.164.112 wan0_dns1_x=1.0.0.2 me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# grep -F "1.0.0.2" /tmp/wan*bound.env me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# Maybe something from a...

Yes (and no :)), see screenshot. Global Redirect to router. ----Edit ----- now changed again What is strange, /etc/resolv.conf looks like this: ASUSWRT-Merlin RT-AX88U 3004.388.4_0 Mon Aug 21 19:35:36 UTC 2023 me@RT-AX88U-EA00:/tmp/home/root# cat /etc/resolv.conf nameserver 1.0.0.2 nameserver...

    Solved Router ignoring DNS settings

Hello! Today, I had some DNS issues (some URLs not beeing resolved). After checking, it seems, my RT-AX88U (Firmware:3004.388.4) is ignoring the DNS server setting for its own queries (and maybe even for other queries as well, cannot check), and forces Cloudflare's 1.0.0.2 for some reasons...

Web History: fixed, but filtering does not work

I have the same issue, it seems to occur when the web history contains a lot of entries. When you filter, it first filters it according to the selected client, but then loads more entries and puts them into the same window, and it gets mixed up. With only a few entries (after deletion)...

    CVE-2019-14899 VPN Injection

They write: " This allows us to inject data into the TCP stream and hijack connections" Does anyone know whether this "data" would be processed in terms of correct decryption and processing by the victim, or is this just garbage that cannot be decrypted and is discarded right away?

    Wireguard implementation?

Well, I don't concur. "other ASUS routers" is actually one pricey model where it works. Even with hardware support, as we have seen in the experimental thread, max transfer is around 250MBit/s, while on the same model, Wireguard reaches 400+Mbit/s. Without hardware support, OpenVPN has an even...

[Experimental] WireGuard for HND platform (4.1.x kernels)

The Wireguard code for AC86U has not been updated in the first post, but AX88U is still on the codebase of July. Will that also be updated? Is there a tutorial how this can be done for future updates as well?

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.51 Beta 1 is out

Hi! Are the changes of ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware 3.0.0.4.378.4376 included? In particular, the AI protection fixes?

    ASUS RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4376

Can anyone tell me what that means? Is the strange web history screen (sorting by device, and storing only a bunch of URLs instead of a complete history) now better?
