    Issues running two RT-AC87U

A week later and still running strong! I believe it's safe to say this issue is resolved. Thanks to all who shared their experiences and recommendations. It has been a rough road with ASUS but now with fixed firmware we have kick a** routers! Happy networking!

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

Thanks for the response Jong! Mine is also still running solid just shy of 24 hours now which I never achieved prior. This is looking good! I was pretty sure we were just dealing with a firmware issue here, just wish ASUS support people were better informed of this issue. They claimed they...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

Hey all! Finally getting back on here to provide an update since the start of this thread. Honestly I had given up completely with ASUS support. Last 3 or so months my second router has just been sitting in a box not connected. Figured some day a firmware update would release to resolve...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

Cables are good. I run APC backups in both locations...power source is solid, outlets are less than 5 years old. Just to recap router runs fine....3 weeks now on its own. Only locks up once 2nd router (Config as AP) is powered on (well within 1-3 hours). Both units run fine when running...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

So I have my second 87u connected directly to a switch upstairs which then runs through cat6 cable down stairs to my 87u router. When I last talked to ASUS they advised me to eliminate everything in-between to rule out other possible issues. I grabbed a new network cable and brought the AP...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

So it just so happens to be that I am using Safari. I have been using my MacBook Pro the entire time in setting up my two routers. That is one thing I haven't yet tried. I'll give it a try. Others sharing my issue using Safari?

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

Okay so called ASUS support yet again. Since I have my AP going through a switch to my upstairs they asked me to test it wired directly to a LAN port of the router. So I did...and yes my problem is still there. Placed a call back this evening and I got someone who after reviewing my entire...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

Hearing from more people only insures me there is something going on here. Thanks for your response. I plan to call ASUS yet again today and will post the results afterwards. I have left just the one 87U up as a router and the other which is my AP has been a $270 powered off device for the...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

I still believe we are dealing with a firmware issue here. I wonder if we can get Merlin to chime in here...have you seen anything like this or within the firmware that could cause such an issue? Seems like the AP changes its IP on the fly and at random times locking up network. My guess anyways.

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

So still no answers from ASUS....have been in an endless email loop with the support team now asking to call in as my issue is to complex for email. Which I'll add I started with in the beginning with no answers. Oh and the one response I got about sending my issue to testing must have been a...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

My case with ASUS has been sent over to the testers along with my logs to try to reproduce the problem...I will post their response when I get it. Keep your fingers crossed.

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

So I checked my 87U (Router) and I have the same entry in my log file. Very interesting. May be onto something here.....anyone understand this?

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

I have tried that as well. In my case doesn't seem to matter if I assign or allow DHCP to assign using the reserved DHCP table. Either way the AP appears to change on its own from whatever the original IP it has regardless how it got it.

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

What SSID naming are you using for the AP? Is it the same as the router? Or close to it? First I had them both the same. Now I have XXX & XXX_5G for the router and XXX2 & XXX2_5G for the AP. XXX=my actual name. I work out of town and can't mess with it until the weekend but last thing...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

I agree except in my case its a $270 router just sitting on the shelf. I am at the point where it has to be a firmware issue. By the way, are you guys using the same SSID for both router and AP? Or are they different? I had them the same at first. First time I called ASUS they told me...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

My understanding is both units as exactly the same. Strange about the firmware though.I have tried two of the 3 firmwares listed for mine and then also Merlins. Made no difference unfortunately for me. Glad to see I am not the only one having issues setting up an AP. ASUS told me at one...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

When I setup a static IP for the AP I did change the DHCP address range on the router so it would not include the IP I assigned to the AP. I also tried adding the static IP I set on the AP to the static table of the router so it would always assign that IP by the router just in case. One...

    Issues running two RT-AC87U

I seemed to be having a unique issue that has challenged Asus support. Hoping someone can help and/or has seen similar situation. I went out and bought two RT-AC87U routers. Which provide outstanding performance when up and running! Very impressed! My problem is I can’t seem to keep them up...
