    Zapped Router

posted about a similar issue a few days ago https://www.snbforums.com/threads/need-new-router-check-your-coax-ground-line.79679/#post-774878 Prior to entering the home the fiber demarcation box must be grounded. Usually this is by running a line to the home ground rod. If your not comfortable...

need new Router & check your coax ground line!

Hmm - could be interesting project. But what would a pi-router for $150 offer that a $50 - 70 Miktrotik don't? I say $150 pi-router as that is the only one in stock at the moment.

need new Router & check your coax ground line!

Good to know but not much of a concern here. What's the goto basic Router w/o Wifi this days? Mikrotik hEX RB750Gr3? Or maybe an EdgeRouter?

PC based vs Appliance? Your thoughts

Maybe I am not advanced like the typical pFsense user but I would say if swapping a card from gigabit to 10 gig would make a difference why not do that with a switch instead? Swapping the card alone might end up overloading other parts of the device.

need new Router & check your coax ground line!

TLDR - check your Coax ground line where it enters the house. Now I need a new standalone Router. The ranker charts only show the highend Router / WiFi all in one whizbang gizmos. The gory details Had some crazy lighting storms the past couple days. Was hearing loud electrical popping sounds...

DIY POE Camera & Storage or buy prebuilt package?

I've had a Proxmox VM Host & NAS for a few years. Last night setup Zoneminder as a VM to manage the cameras & their data.

DIY POE Camera & Storage or buy prebuilt package?

I am considering setting up some POE Cameras around the exterior of the home to keep an eye on things when out of town. Should I renew my geek status and build my own or just buy an package deal of cameras & storage appliance? Already have a decent Unifi network with spare POE capacity and a...

Ideal combination of Indoor & Outdoor access points?

Huh? As for the faraday cage I am currently sitting outside next to the exterior wall with no WiFi. If directly opposite on inside signal is near perfect. Thinking I might mount a couple UAP-AC-LITEs to the soffits for coverage on deck. Gotta check their resistance to humidity.

Ideal combination of Indoor & Outdoor access points?

Appreciate the comments so far. But my question is more does one vendor produce decent outdoor & indoor access points? I'm leaning towards TP Link as they seem to be a bit fresher vs Unifi. Is that an accurate statement?

Hotspot LTE with external antenna for campervan

This topic is debated often IRV2.com I used a T-Mobile 5G hot spot for 3 weeks while in a RV at a friend's horse farm - it worked OK, not great. Also the device tried to auto-update then got stuck in a reboot loop. Supposedly that is fixed with new firmware. But T-Mobile did overnight a new...

    Planning Network Setup For House

Being a new, or new to you, house any chance you will be repainting? If yes highly recommend running Ethernet to any wall that is repainted as the patching will be easier. Hide acces cutouts with picture frames if you need to. Consider ceiling mount access points powered by ethernet that would...

    New router?

Everyone has opinions, mine would be UAP-AC-Pro or UAP-AC-Lite to supplement & fill in the dead spot on either floor. At some point replace the existing router with an EdgeRouter & a 2nd access point.

    overhaul the my home network

Seeing you have NAS4Free (excellent product in my opinion! ) I will assume setting up a EdgeRouter X will be a reasonable task. Some easy to follow youtube clips can be found. As for moving to AC WiFi UAP-AC-PRO or UAP-AC-LITE are great choices. With the concrete nothing will penetrate so you...

Back It Up! World Backup Day Is Today

Much like a fire drill in school, backup & recovery is easy if we'll planned.

Looking to add a NAS to our network and have some questions

Just my personal experience with two TVs that indicate DLNA support - they don't see my NAS4Free when I enable the DLNA service. So both for the video streaming and router I would say setup the NAS, once you can browse your files from your clients ( android, mac, etc ) see how it works. If...

Home network plan: feedback and questions

I found using QOS to limit my max upload to about 90% of my average upload from speedtest.net helps the bufferbloat. Disable QOS and bufferbloat goes to poop, gaming ping times spike too.

Which Architecture For New Home Wired and Wireless

I would say add a couple ethernet drops for ceiling mount access points. Or at least put them high mounted in a closet so you can wall mount just above closet doors. By the way, most ceiling mount APs are powered by ethernet which allows for centralized battery backup. One central AP might...

Found these - Platinum Tools 106205 - on an Amazon Warehouse Deals special. Got a couple dozen extras, drop me a PM with an offer if you want some. I can crimp to Cat5e as well. But at that point mind as well order pre-termed from Amazon
