Merlin and AiMesh - main node only?

I have been following the recommendation of stock on nodes but recently was wondering if that was still the current advice. Node performance seems to be spotty as of late so I was looking to see if there were any updates. I'm running an RT-AC86u as my main (Merlin 386.2_4) and a stock RT-AC68u...

Downgrade from 384.19 to 3.0.0.4_386_40451 stock asus firmware for RT-AC86U

I am about to do the same and "revert" to 386 stock on my RT-AC86U. On 384.19 I've been seeing lots of odd behaviors the past week (have been on it for about 2 months). Odd behaviors include wireless signal disappearing, guest network disappearing, USB drives disappearing, static IPs not being...

    DLNA Folder Selection?

I posted another thread about unexplained disk activity and there is a link to instructions to use custom scripts. Hope it helps you. https://www.snbforums.com/threads/unexplained-disk-activity.40237/#post-339695 I just had a laptop screen die so I might re-purpose that as a server and not use...

    Unexplained Disk Activity

When I try "htop" it says command not found - must not be in the builds by default.

    Unexplained Disk Activity

Thank you for the tip. Yes, using the "top" command I can see MiniDLNA reporting between 29-40% of my CPU usage.

    Unexplained Disk Activity

That could be it. In researching this some more I saw the change back in March to enable the MiniDLNA status page at http://router.asus.com:8200/ and it says "* Media scan in progress". However the Media Server page of the router GUI says the MiniDLNA server is "Idle" and I don't see anything...

    Unexplained Disk Activity

I have an Asus RT-AC68U running 380.67. For the past few releases (since 3806.65 or 66) I have been seeing constant unexplained disk activity on my attached USB3 drive. The drive is a 3TB WD Red in a Vantec Nexstar case. The disk activity light is constantly blinking even though no devices on...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

I have Padavan running on a rarely used spare router so I'm not up to date on all the latest developments. I just saw that link. Are the builds at that site current? They have the same version numbers (3.4.3.9-099) as the March 2016 builds on BitBucket but they have current dates. Is this site...

[Test builds] 380.58 alpha builds are now available

I saw a similar slowdown with 378.56_2, also on an RT-AC68U. The slowdown happened a few times and the one time I was able to get into the GUI I noticed one core was pegged at 100%. http://www.snbforums.com/threads/asuswrt-merlin-378-56_2-is-now-available.27952/page-25#post-227276 I didn't...

    TP-Link TL-WR802N?

Turns out you can run DD-WRT on this. To install you need to use TFTP, set set your PC IP to 192.168.0.66, change the filename of the firmware you are uploading to "wr802nv1_tp_recovery.bin", and then hold the reset button on the router for 3 seconds while plugging it in. The DD-WRT forum link...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 380.57 is now available

FYI for now it is only showing up under Windows 10 64 bit. Are any of these updates in the 380.58 alpha? http://www.snbforums.com/threads/380-58.29787/

    TP-Link TL-WR802N?

If I am reading this link right it now looks like OpenWRT now supports the TL-WR802N as of Jan 21... https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/571269/ Now to figure out how to download and install it. Never used OpenWRT before, this could be a good chance to learn.

    TP-Link TL-WR802N?

Thank you. I absolutely recognize the TL-WR802N is a travel device and has less ram than is ideal for 3rd party firmware. Based on the links I've read it is my understanding that the CPU and some other internal components may be shared between the WR802N and the WR841ND v9, allowing WR841ND 3rd...

    TP-Link TL-WR802N?

Anyone on the forum have experience with the TP-Link TL-WR802N? Specifically has anyone tried running third party firmware on it? It looks like it is similar to the TL-WR841ND v9 and can unofficially run the firmware intended for the TL-WR841ND v9. Anyone try and have any experience with it? I...

    Padavan's Custom Firmware

I just loaded Padavan's firmware a few days ago and have yet to use the NAS functions, so I am basing my comments on my experience with the NAS functions I've used on routers running TomatoUSB, DD-WRT, and AsusWRT Merlin. Generally on drives attached to routers you will see the best performance...

DLNA media server / SMB Share

The lines below suggest that it is mounting... Jan 7 21:25:49 kernel: EXT3-fs: mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Jan 7 21:25:49 hotplug[837]: USB ext3 fs at /dev/sda5 mounted on /tmp/mnt/Portasaurus Jan 7 21:25:49 usb: USB ext3 fs at /dev/sda5 mounted on /tmp/mnt/Portasaurus.

DLNA media server / SMB Share

If the drive is always attached to the router then you'll be fine with EXT3. Where it might get tricky is if you disconnect an EXT3 drive from the router and then connect it to Windows. Windows does not have native support for EXT3. There are drivers you can get but I have never personally tried...

DLNA media server / SMB Share

I've always used EXT3 (one of the Linux file formats) for drives attached to my router and haven't had a problem. The one problem I've seen is with DLNA, but I think that has more to do with the Asus DLNA implementation than with EXT3 (see...

    DLNA Folder Selection?

I have an RT-AC68u running Merlin's 380.57 and a 3TB USB 3.0 drive attached. I want to use the DLNA feature but I can't select the specific folder(s) where I have my media. The drive has the "asusware", "download", "lost&found", and "share" folders. The share folder contains separate folders for...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.56_2 is now available

I saw a similar thing with 378.56_2 on my 68u. It seemingly came out of nowhere after weeks of uptime. I also noticed that one of the CPU cores was pegged to 100%. Factory resetting and upgrading to 380.57 alpha build (and the official build since then) and havent seen the problem again.
