    Hard reset - need help RT-AC86U

    2.4ghz wifi signal doesn't seem to be working. tried a reset using the reset button. after a few more attempts, my recovery process started but it says failed. tried the recovery with latest asus firmware, 384 and then merlin's latest. i have no clue why it's failing.

    on my RT-AC86U, I am trying a hard reset using the Asus restore utility; the utility keeps saying the wireless router is not in rescue mode. I have been trying the instructions like holding the reset button/wps button with static IPs of 192.168.1.10 or 50.10.. but to no avail I tried browsing...

    thanks @kfp for the finding on digitalocean. tgabjs @eastavin. i wasn't too worried about the content, but what you say makes real sense. i seem to have found the issues - it's with the username of my vpn provider. its rather long and i have always used a HTML hack to enter more than 64...

    it's the VPN Client and not the server. i have used this before on my router and able to use it on other devices - my phone, laptop at the moment - so makes me think something is wrong in the router... the weird thing is that the pptp connection seems to be looping and never ending even if there...
