NAS for storage and media playback

We use cables to connect; wireless is often problematic - or slow at best.

NAS for storage and media playback

Unfortunately, pricey is the name of the game for video streaming. Actually I would suggest the Ultra 4 Plus for that - and it costs even more. We have issues often streaming anything to our PS3, and ultimately end up copying it over to the PS3 to play it. Roger.

Deciding on QNAP TS110, TS112, Synology DS110j, DS211j to stream media and torrent

Tim, Nice review on the Orb Live. I have had similar issues and still not had time to test on the Ultra +'s, but hopefully the dual core will make the difference. --- As for Bittorrent, I have not had great success on NAS units downloading torrent files. They all say they will work, but...

    NAS Buying Advice Please

I am a big Netgear fan myself, have owned and used many here and sold them to my local clients - all still running strong. The Netgear ReadyNAS Ultra 2 is very nice and I believe would do what you need (not sure about Sabnzb). The Ultra 2+ is essentially the same as the Ultra 2 but has a...

    New 5+ drive NAS advice

The new Ultra 6, or even a Pro 6 would be fantastic - the ultra would be cheaper. MUCH faster than your NV+ Best, Roger.

    Comparing Synology 1010+, Thecus N7700, (QNap TS-559)??

Definitely confusing... One of the reasons we started NetworkStorageTips.com was precisely for those reasons: 1) We love Netgear 2) It is hard to sort out and thought others might benefit from us doing some of the heavy lifting. As for a company with a product I can't recommend, almost...

    Comparing Synology 1010+, Thecus N7700, (QNap TS-559)??

That's the wrong one, that's the Pioneer Edition, which I do NOT recommend. 6 bay: RNDP6310, RNDP6350 (I would not get because of only 500MB disks), RNDP6610, RNDP6620 are the ReadyNAS Pro Business Edition 4 bay: (NVX) RNDX4210, RNDX4410, etc Those are class acts, and if there is...

NAS for streaming to PS3 and Xbox360

Is there a switch between the two devices? I run a gigabit network, although the PS3 is probably 10/100, and my ReadyNAS NVX does just fine streaming to my PS3 for movies. There is a chance that they could be running at 10mbps, you may want to check - the NAS will probably show you and I...

2-NIC NAS support 2 inside LANs?

I personally like to keep DMZ servers specific to the task... But if that's not your concern, one advantage to two NAS' would be the potential to backup to each other. Roger.

    Comparing Synology 1010+, Thecus N7700, (QNap TS-559)??

Any reason you don't include Netgear ReadyNAS in your comparison? NVX is excellent for 4 bay, Pro Business Edition fantastic 6 bay. They are a minus on price, but part of that is due to the enterprise drives they put in many models (1TB and over). Their tech support is excellent...

Help me choose a NAS device, what is best?

I have a ReadyNAS Duo personally, and really like it for basic NAS needs. Duo CON's: External power brick Cannot migrate to newer ReadyNAS units However, for more advanced business features and RAID5 over 4 drives, I also have a ReadyNAS NVX. The DNS-323 is pretty decent for the...
