    Wiring home questions

I would ignore a lot of these answers. If you are running 4 Ethernet connections to a 4 port wall plate, that gives a great place to connect...4 devices without using a switch. A TV/PS4/Xbox/Bluray/Roku, etc. The internet (ISP) connection is NOT the only use of LANs. Get multiple APs in a...

15 years later and multi AP setups are still terrible

Turn the power down of the 2.4 Ghz SSID to LOW. <----- IMPORTANT and only use channels 1 or 6 or 11, No other. 20 Mhz wide, so nothing overlaps. Turn up the power of 5 Ghz to MEDIUM or HIGH. Use a single SSID, same security for both frequencies. "multi AP setups are still terrible" No, you...

If you don't have speeds in access of 150Mbps whats the point of a AC router ?

There other other reasons to want a faster network speed besides being connected to the internet. Not all networks are even connected to the internet.

If you don't have speeds in access of 150Mbps whats the point of a AC router ?

I was of course joking. Just because you don't need the speed or range of 802.11ac, it doesn't mean millions of other people don't.

If you don't have speeds in access of 150Mbps whats the point of a AC router ?

Why? Chrome/IE/Firefox doesn't need that speed. Why would you waste money/energy on that? Makes no sense....

PLEX problem with the x31 based Qnap

The TS-251 has twice as much RAM as the TS-231, 1 GB vs 512MB. The TS-251 can be upgraded to 16 GB. The TS-251 is a very different NAS, costs more, does more.

Ubiquiti Unifi UAP-AC-Lite, each AP can have up to 4 SSIDs active.

    Not sure on Ubiquiti routers

What is the max routing speed of the EdgeRouter X ? I think it about half as powerful as the the Lite model as it doesn't have hardware handoff. It can't perform Deep Packet Inspection or traffic analysis, whereas the slightly more expensive EdgeRouter Lite can.

    Replace AC-3200 with?

Unifi is great where you have multiple APs and are centrally managed. They just work and offer full diagnostics.

    Replace AC-3200 with?

Use an Ethernet cable. If you want a great router, build/buy a pfsense one and use Ubiquiti Unifi if you want full control of the wifi.

Ubiquiti Announces $89 AC1200 Access Point

Their forum support is really good. I just added their cloud key device, works great. I wouldn't use another brand.

    QTS 4.2.0 Build 1023 update - Intel/ARM

I wish they would fix the issue on each firmware update, Download station gets installed, I don't need it or want it. Grrr.

    NAS with QNAP

You can configure the single drives any way you like, you don't have to do RAID. What you can do it, is setup two drives in a RAID1 and then the other two drives in RAID1. Giving you 4TB of storage in each RAID1 pair. You can schedule back ups from one RAID1 pair to the other, or you could...

Ubiquiti Announces $89 AC1200 Access Point

Yup, that's the promise. But they have been known to promise things and even put the specs in their brochures, for several years and not deliver. I'm looking forward to DFS in the new UAP-AC-etc products.

Ubiquiti Announces $89 AC1200 Access Point

Ubiquiti has said that the new UAP-AC series will have DFS support. But they have said many things before, so who knows when it will be activated.

    Never turn off router?

I turn it off as often as I turn off my fridge.

Ubiquiti Announces $89 AC1200 Access Point

Since the US prices are listed WITHOUT any sales tax listed, so you can add up to 10% to those prices. The UK prices INCLUDE 20% VAT (end Sales tax). And looking here: http://linitx.com/category/ubiquiti-uap-ac/1091 http://linitx.com/product/ubiquiti-unifi-uap-ac-lr-867-mbps-aphotspot/14523...

Ubiquiti Announces $89 AC1200 Access Point

I have the beta Android app, it allows you to configure a new UAP-AC-LR/Lite/Pro without using a controller. The UAP-AC-XXXXX needs to have a minimum firmware version already installed to be compatible with the app. They haven't said if the app will work with other UAPs. Zero hand off is...
