AIMesh Setup using 2-AC68Us vs 1-AC86U and 1-AC68U

Oh cool, that's great to hear when it worked! :)

AIMesh Setup using 2-AC68Us vs 1-AC86U and 1-AC68U

On the router UI - in AiMesh section - you will find the bind icon for each wireless client: On click it will ask you to choose one of AiMesh nodes: (AiMesh 2.0 required. RP-AC55 does not support it here, that's what the info in yellow says) The bind feature is also available in the Asus...

    Release RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.43129

Exactly that was always my understanding of this config. However in the past it was not enough to just set DHCP DNS - clients would bypass the Pi-hole in some cases. Only with the "faulty" local DNS in WAN config it worked reliable. I appreciate if it handles in the correct way now. (Still...

    Release RT-AC68U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.386.43129

Does anybody experience issues with local DNS server in WAN settings with this version? Dealing with some weird new issue here. I have pihole configured as DNS for LAN (DHCP) & WAN and this configuration was working throughout all versions of the past (Stock and Merlin). The router does seem to...

    RP-AC55 aimesh 2.0 (thus FW 386.x)

You can set up on both ways, wired or wireless and sure you can use it as you want at the final location. For the onboarding process AiMesh uses wifi and it strictly requires WPS to be turned on. I never tested if WPS can be disabled after the onboarding process..? Especially with the RP-AC55...

    RP-AC55 aimesh 2.0 (thus FW 386.x)

It should definitely work with .386 vs. .384. But only wired backhaul works stable for me. Make sure you have WPS enabled on the router for adding a new node.

    asus rt-ac86u wifi problems

Hi James, so can you confirm that other devices in your network are actually working with good wifi speed, right? Maybe do some speedtests on some of the other devices to see if you get expected speeds and to nail the problem down to the Dell G3. From reading your posts it does not sound to be...

AIMesh Setup using 2-AC68Us vs 1-AC86U and 1-AC68U

An AiMesh node is technically in AP mode, but you don't reach its dedicated web interface anymore. Instead all configuration is made on the master router. Advantages of AiMesh: Centralized wifi configuration and firmware update managment on the main router, also restarting of all mesh nodes...

AIMesh Setup using 2-AC68Us vs 1-AC86U and 1-AC68U

#1: The AC86U with its specs does technically offer better wifi performance in terms of throughput for clients that are capable. It should do better with very fast ISP connections (1GBit+). See: 86U vs 68U - Wifi Throughput | SmallNetBuilder Forums (snbforums.com) It also has a few more...

    RT-AC68U + RP-AC55 mesh node: connections though RP-AC55 unstable

Hey @brobin, see my post in the other thread, hope it helps: Post in thread 'RP-AC55 aimesh 2.0 (thus FW 386.x)' http://www.snbforums.com/threads/rp-ac55-aimesh-2-0-thus-fw-386-x.69556/post-666735 With the settings and wired nodes I got AiMesh pretty stable, and I mean zero connection drops...

    RP-AC55 aimesh 2.0 (thus FW 386.x)

Maybe just a rumor - I read that the RP-AC55 does not play nice with the higher 5GHz channels - above channel 64. I use channel 36 and set fixed channels and width for both bands (2.4G -> CH1, 20MHz) (5G -> CH36, 80MHz). Try to not set wifi settings to automatic, otherwise if the main router...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0 (continued)

It's not possible to set it. Wireless it always starts with the 2.4GHz backhaul connect and it usually switches to the 5GHz band after a few sec/min and stays with it. Maybe it depends on the signal strength..? I read a few times that the RP-AC55 does not play nice with the higher 5GHz channels...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0 (continued)

If you mean the RP model, it does support AiMesh indeed! (AiMesh 1.0 so far, 386 please!!) It's the only RP which does it. No other RP-AC51/53/56/66/87 - just the 55. And you can get for like 40 bucks which is nice. :) I have one running as node atm. If it receives AiMesh 2.0 at some point I...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0 (continued)

Hi, does your AC5300 run on any beta RC version or public release? What exactly does not work when adding it? Do you can't see it or adding fails in the process? (WPS is enabled?) Can only speak for the AC68U (beta & release) + RP-AC55 where AiMesh works, and it works pretty stable ONLY with...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

Dear @ASUSWRT_2020 and all, I guess dealing with a compatibility issue here with the RP-AC55 added to my network (AiMesh 1.0 vs AiMesh 2.0) - did anybody experience problems with it? The RP is on official firmware 3.0.0.4.384.83130 which supports AiMesh. ASUSWRT_2020 I'm happy to test any 2.0...

    RT-AC68U + RP-AC55 mesh node: connections though RP-AC55 unstable

Can confirm the RP-AC55 is a bit flaky. I also use it to extend the wifi of a RT-AC68U - in mesh mode. In my case stability improved with fixed channels & width for both bands, the repeater does not need to adjust the channels always on a change. (causing disconnects) Also I read somewhere that...

Beta ASUSWRT 386 RC2 public beta with full functions AiMesh 2.0

@ASUSWRT_2020: Can you tell if the RP-AC55 - the only AiMesh supporting socket repeater (afaik) will receive AiMesh 2.0 and features at some point? I would highly appreciate to have 802.11k/v support and coverage throughout my whole wifi build on two RP-AC55 and two RT-AC68U. @Kiwipaul...

    ASUS RT-AC68U May 6 2020 New Firmware Version 3.0.0.4.385_20490

My AC68Us offer me a firmware update, but something is broken in the meta description I guess (Version 4. ??), the update fails via web interface. However by guessing the next build version to be aligned to the AC88U (is on 20585) I actually hit a 20585 firmware file for the AC68U here...
