    Problems with Repeater mode and clients connection to Wifi

    I have 6 devices and used ac86u repeater mode. Tried both Merlin and stock, old and lastest firmwares. Same result. Only random first 4 devices can connect. The router is Telus T3200M modem wifi router. I tried all different settings on router as well. No help.

    I used repeater mode. Only 4 clients are allowed to connect. Asus should indicate this limitation to user. Cheating customers!

    Regarding the ac86u repeater mode, I just found out that only first four clients are allowed to connect. The fifth and more cannot connect to the router. Both Merlin and Asus latest firmwares are the same.

    After two hours, restart some devices wifi, no ip, stop working again. I tried router and ap modes, both are fine. Absolutely some thing in ac86u repeater mode. Just uses it as AP with cheap wifi extender for now. Very frustrating!

    There is no way to set channel in repeater mode. It is automatic.

    I tried again. Band 36 also works. The issue looks like the negotiation band between devices, ac86u repeater and router. For example, ac86u negotiates with device first and connects on band 36. Then, it uses band 36 to talk to the router which is on band 153. In this case, the connection fails...

    I set the router 5g to fixed 153 band. Seems to work ok now. Lower bands 36-48 doesn't work for Canadian version Ac86u. Looks like a bug?

    It is t3200m ADSL modem router. 25M download 4M upload. I tried fixed channel 6 and auto on 2.4G. 5G auto only. I tried reboot router twice and asus every time.

    Yes, I holded the reset button for 30secs. I also check re-init settings to restore in the web interface. I also tried three different versions of merlin and two older versions of asus firmwares, same problem. The modem router is Telus T3200M. I have tried split 2.4g and 5g ssid on it. Both...

    BTW The cheap wifi extender uses a different stategy to connect. It uses a different subnet 192.168.10.x for local devices and uses its own dhcp server to assign ip to local devices. It routes all traffic to router ip 192.168.1.254. Asus repeater mode uses router dhcp and subnet. No routing...
