Best option for a dedicated AC media bridge?

I know this thread is old but I was actually looking for something like this that won't break the bank. I ended up doing the same thing that was suggested above and just bought a used Asus AC66U and put it into bridge mode. It more than handles my needs (media streaming, large file transfers to...

Asus RT-AC68U Wired 600Mbps download, Wireless only 300Mbps

Before trying to diagnose the Internet speed test issue you should run a test on your local network to see how fast your wireless transfer speed truly is (ex. plug a gigabit client into your router and try a file transfer to your wireless ac client). If that still gives you 300 megabits then it...

    AC3200 Routers By July?

Not sure how I feel about this. I get the since this is more of money grab (not that most aren't since it is a product afterall) than a logical evolution in AC routers. Could be wrong though. At the very least I would be interested to see what real-world benefits are produced if any.

    EA-N66 + RT-N66U: Peak speeds?

You're getting pretty much the same as me (give or take 10 megabits). I don't really think it's possible to get much more. I tested just normal file transfers and I average about 25 MB/s going through 3 walls at about 20 ft. I'm using 2 EA-N66's (one is the AP and the other being used as an...

    Actiontec Homeplugs?

I use another brand right now that I'm pretty happy with but anyone ever try these? I was looking to see if they were on the powerline charts but didn't see them listed...

powerline adapers for HD video streaming?

In the real world there's no right answer. Everyone's wiring is different. I tried a pair of the netgear adapters and couldn't get higher than 30 megabits of consistent bandwidth in a certain location of my home. However, with a pair of the zyxel's in the same location I get consistent bandwidth...

powerline adapers for HD video streaming?

I use the zyxel brand of powerline adapters myself to stream blu-ray rips to one of my rooms and it works flawlessly on high bitrate rips with HD Audio. However, this scenario would not be possible in another room of my house due to whatever electrical reasons. While this works good enough for...

    EA-N66 Wireless Ethernet Adapter

For testing purposes, I assume your 2.4 ghz network and 5 ghz network have different SSID's? If they have the same name, it's probably connecting to the network it feels has the strongest signal. Try giving them different names and then connecting.

Draft 802.11ac Revealed! Buffalo WZR-D1800H AirStation Reviewed

While the results for total throughput with multiple streams is impressive, single stream throughput wasn't exactly what I hoped. Unless, you need a way to send multiple 1080p HD streams at the same time (which is a possibility) I don't see any reason to abandon good 3 stream N routers at this...

Buffalo Draft 802.11ac Router and Bridge

See the article below http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/wireless/wireless-news/31749-buffalo-is-shipping-draft-80211ac-router-bridge-today So, when might we see a review of this new tech? Particularly, how well the router and bridge work in tandem.

Three Stream N for HD Streaming

Yeah, I know everyone's environment is different and this has an immediate impact on the results you'll see from wireless and powerline adapters but I'd like to see some updated tests if possible. I'm pretty sure my setup isn't average. (signal only needs to go about 20 feet through a couples...

Noob Needs Help Streaming Blu-rays (Network too Slow)

Yep, you should know fairly quickly if they will work or not. however, you should make sure that the coaxial cables you're hooking the adapters up to are active. Although you would assume if they're in your walls they must be working, this isn't always the case so test using different locations...

Noob Needs Help Streaming Blu-rays (Network too Slow)

MoCA is a good option. I used it for a while with great results before I switched over to satellite (I needs my football) but after switching to satellite I could no longer use MoCA as the satellite and cable signals can not coexist on the same lines. So as long as you have only cable, MoCA...

Three Stream N for HD Streaming

I wonder if now may be good time to revisit this article. I can successfully stream blurays (some that can easily spike above 50 megabits) without issue. Plus, this is with a 2 stream router( ASUS 56u with modified firmware) an 2 stream bridge with the Dlink DAP1522 instead of 3 stream...

how to Bridge two Asus Rt-56u

I don't have 2 56u's to test with or I would try this my self but check out the last post on the link below from what I can tell you have to enter the MAC address of both routers in each other's Bridge setup page and set the client router to AP or Hybrid mode depending on what you want to do...

    WEP and (Lack of) Security

That sucks. If you're using third party firmware like ddwrt on your old router you could setup a virtual lan using firewall rules that keeps anyone connected to the WEP secured AP from accessing computers/clients on your real lan. You could also filter by mac address (although this is easy to...

    EA-N66 Wireless Ethernet Adapter

Yeah I saw the demo but unfortunately there were no file transfer tests done to demonstrate it's raw speed. Also no 20/40 hz test were done to show comparisons so that has me tapering my expectations for the moment. If you're looking for a similar 450 Mb adapter/bridge you could give something...

    Asus RT-N56U Reviewed

quick question. Coming from the ddwrt world, it's generally recommended that you restore all settings to the router manually after updgrading the firmware as opposed to restoring from a config file. Is that also the recommended approach when using padavan's firmware or can I restore the config...
