Interesting reading: These Popular Wi-Fi Routers Are Security Nightmares

https://www.reviewgeek.com/104549/these-popular-wi-fi-routers-are-security-nightmares/ As an average, unsophisticated user, I feel kinda concerned when reading this.

AX92U or AX82U as main router?

I own both of those routers and after some testing of both configs I decided to use the AC82U as the main one. In my home environment I didn’t notice any difference in terms of coverage. Two reasons that drove my decision were: 1) I’m looking forward to the Gnuton’s fork of Merlin firmware for...

    NextDNS

Another happy NextDNS user here. The additional advantages include “portability” - they have apps for every OS, so you can have the same level of protection everywhere. I also appreciate parental controls (much better than e.g. on Asus routers natively) and customizability of filtering. If you...

RT-AX92U or RT-AX58U as main router

Of course, but this is all true only if you make an AX92U the main AiMesh router. The initial question was about making an AX58U the main one. If you own these 2 specific routers and you do that, then you will only have access to very basic WiFi settings of the nodes. And your options for...

RT-AX92U or RT-AX58U as main router

If you use the AX58u as your main router and still want to take advantage of the 5GHz-2 (AX) band on your AX92us, then you have 2 options: 1) Set up the AX92us as ‘classical’ APs (so drop the AiMesh). 2) If AiMesh is a dealbreaker, then in the system settings you will need to choose wired...

    RT-AX82U dropping connection

Hi Guys, did you upgrade to the latest stable version (as per my signature below)? Two days uptime and so far so good for me.

Having trouble connecting 160mhz with AX86U

Thank you, I did just that. Seems to have helped - at least in some tests (not always though) I get speeds as expected. BTW, the latest driver is 22.80.1: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/189347/intel-wifi-6-ax200-gig/downloads.html Interestingly, with this driver Windows...

Having trouble connecting 160mhz with AX86U

Sorry to reopen the the topic, but I have a very similar issue with my RT-AX82U on the latest stable firmware. For 2-3 weeks the connection on 160mhz worked as expected and with all of my ax-ready devices I was able to achieve speeds close to 750 mbps (which is what my ISP is supposed to...

Purpose of HTTPS/SSL Certificate for DDNS?

A couple days ago I had an issue with my Let's Encrypt certificate and was asking myself the same question. At the very least, here is what I noticed: OpenVPN server configuration file would ignore my DDNS address and use the "regular" public IP. In my case it changes whenever I restart the ISP...

    RT-AX82U dropping connection

Okay, after a week of reasonably stable behavior, my RT-AX82U developed a hiccup, too. I never lost my WAN connection, but occasionally the devices on my network stop "seeing" each other and in the GUI I can only see the router and the AiMesh nodes. Rebooting helps, waiting it out also does -...

No encrypt certificate not working with DDNS service

@garycnew , here is the part of my logs that I think may be useful to you - this is what happened after my successful ddns hostname update ('XXX' stands for hidden private information): Sep 29 07:44:18 rc_service: httpd XXX:notify_rc restart_ddns_le Sep 29 07:44:18 start_ddns: update...

    RT-AX82U dropping connection

Guys, recently I had a chance to put my hands on a very cheap AX82U and as much as I love my Merlin-powered AC86U, I couldn’t resist playing with WiFi 6, 160 mHz, DFS etc. Shortly speaking, for a while the AX82U is my main router now. Now, I’m running the same version of stock firmware as you...

No encrypt certificate not working with DDNS service

Hi @garycnew , many thanks for the hint. Logging into noip.com and manually updating my hostname did the trick. The certificate works as it should now. Of note: in the meantime I tried the Asus DDNS address and it failed to register. There may be indeed some issue with their service.
