Does alternative firmware break your router?

You must test Tomato Toastman and OpenWRT as well at least. For the sake of the great Tomato community, you don't want to put Tomato Shibby in a representative position, also because his builds are the quickest updated of all. Tomato Toastman and Tomato RAF tend to wait for updates, they don't...

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

Kinda. Almost evey mod follows this tree: Tomato -> TomatoUSB -> Mod Teddy_Bear (TomatoUSB modder) is not developing ATM but it's releasing drivers for other mods and developers. That's why we have to be careful with suggestions because every mod starts to look different from each other and...

    ASUS RT-N66U - my review

"I used this firmware: tomato-K26USB-1.28.RT-N5x-MIPSR2-083V-Mega-VPN" It's not TomatoUSB, it's Tomato Shibby build. Great stable speed btw.

Am i being cheap? or just practical?

Oh no, absolutely not :) I just find the E3000 a lot better than the E2000 and it's only $10 more. If $10 is really too much for you, the E2000 will work flawlessly, I sold few of them with no problems. edit: By the way, the E2000 is dual band, the two bands just don't work together. You have...

Need a good wireless for HD streaming - suggestions?

1080p works perfectly as well, I just get 720p movies/episodes because of the TV. edit: By the way, it doesn't matter what "you think" of HD. Even 480p is HD. You can say Full HD so people understand you mean ONLY 1080p.

Need a good wireless for HD streaming - suggestions?

I stream 720p MKVs to my TV + Boxee Box at 30 feet (10 meters) away with a Cisco Linksys E4200v1 + Tomato (Shibby mod 083V) and I've never had one single problem. Everything is perfect, it doesn't even buffer. I only use 2.4Ghz 20Mhz WiFi. It used to work perfectly with the E3000 as well.

E4200 of course. Don't buy NETGEAR products for home use, they are simply the worst.
