It was my case as well. Thanks for your advice.

AX86U - what to use as mesh node

So, I did buy AX86S for the mesh node. I ended up buying this router too (AX86S). Spend some time testing AC68U as a mesh node. It was working fine, but no WiFi6 and there were "dark spots" in the house. With AX86S (ethernet backhaul) I've got WiFi6 in every corner of my house, and the worst...

AX86U - what to use as mesh node

I haven't (yet) tried myself, but it seems logical that the nodes should at least match the radio capabilities of the router. You can go down, but what's the reason of doing it when you've already paid for AX86U? :) My choice is AX86S. It's cheaper and has less CPU power, but otherwise it's the...

Upgrade Merlin to 386.4 vs Aimesh node on stock asus

Same here. The version of the FW definitely plays the role. Merlin 386.5_2 was able to discover and add the node only thru the wire. The stock 386.46061 was able to discover but not to add the node via WiFi (added Ok thru the wire).

Can't add RT-AC68U as AiMesh node

In my case nothing worked until I've connected the devices with a wire. AX86U + AC68U. A friend of mine was able to pair the same devices with no problems, but on the older firmware. If nothing works, try downgrading the both devices to the latest stable stock FW and use the wire. In case of...

Unable to add AiMesh node - AC68U

I was trying to pair AX86U and AC68U and got the same error from the web browser. When tried from the app, the error was more concrete: the router was unable to communicate to the node (even though it managed to discover it). The node was 1m away form the router, so it's definitely not abut the...

RT-AX86U - merlin: vlanctl throws unexpected errors

I was trying to setup a proper VLAN layout that would match my former network topology (ERX's + Ubiquity APs). I spent 3 full days reading though dozens of threads on this forum only to conclude: there is something REALLY NOT RIGHT about the `vlanctl` tool on my router. It's running the latest...
