Are Ubiquiti APs better than converted ASUS routers?

I have both Asus routers and Ubnt APs. The Asus routers happen to be the same as PM's, a RT-AC68U and a RT-87U. My Ubnt APs are an AC Lite, an AC Pro and an AC HD. In my experience, the Asus routers have better signal strength and faster bandwidth than my Ubnt APs. The AC HD can barely match...

Ubiquiti Announces New Budget Saving UniFi APs

Maybe they will run in a different mode: when a SU has right to communicate with AP, it occupies the bandwidth exclusively. When the SU finishes its communication, the right will be moved to next. If the next is a MU, all MUs will then communicate with AP concurrently. But this logic has a flaw...

Ubiquiti Announces New Budget Saving UniFi APs

I'm confused with this. How do MU and SU devices share a same WIFI band? Since all MU devices operate in MU, SU in SU, if I have 2 devices, one MU, one SU, they will operate in two different modes. The MU should get MU benefit. The SU, on the other hand, has no other SUs compete/share the SU...

Ubiquiti Announces New Budget Saving UniFi APs

I think it has 800M on 2.4g, therefore it is "AC2600". Its box however has "4Gbps"

    Netgear vulnerability

Does Netgear have two firmware lines? All affected models are Broadcom based. R7800 is not Broadcom, not on the last December's vulnerable list either

Can RT-AC87U run as MU-MIMO client in bridge mode?

Seems there are no Wireless setup options when RT-AC87U runs in Media Bridge mode. I have a MU-MIMO AP, want to run the RT-AC87U as a media bridge. I'm wondering if it can act as a MU-MIMO client.

    Apple Exiting Wi-Fi Router Biz

not anymore. According to https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Touch+Bar+Teardown/73480, the touch bar version of MacBook Pro 13" uses Murata/Apple 339S00056. And according to https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/MacBook+Pro+13-Inch+Function+Keys+Late+2016+Teardown/72415, the non...

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

For IPS, both versions use snort and a same set of policies defined by Sophos. I realized that XG 15 used snort_inline which had worse performance than the version used in UTM. However the issue has been solved in XG 16 that snort is used to replace snort_inline.

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

If you are a new Sophos user, I don't think it is a good decision to pick up the old UTM 9 as it will eventually be replaced by the new version. Then you will have to migrate from UTM to XG and face the new "wired" GUI again.

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

In terms of IPS Sophos UTM/XG is better.

pfSense/Sophos vs ASUSWRT/RMerlin - Is there any reason to change?

I use Sophos XG 16 on a VM. It is similar to Sophos UTM but has a more beautiful UI. I'm happy with it. https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/sophos-xg-firewall-home-edition.aspx

    Actiontech ECB6200 -> 500Mbps ok?

    I have a pair of ECB6200 too. I live in a SFH. One ECB6200 resides in the basement. The other is on the 2nd floor. I just did a test with iperf3 sending: [ 4] 0.00-10.00 sec 1.08 GBytes 926 Mbits/sec 0 sender [ 4] 0.00-10.00 sec 1.08 GBytes 924 Mbits/sec receiver receiving: [ 4]...

    ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 3.0.0.4.380.3459

I just reproduce the issue. It is actually the Reset button on WPS page. I thought it resets WPS settings only. It actually resets all WIFI settings. Would Asus give an alert when user clicks the button?

    ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware 3.0.0.4.380.3459

My WIFI settings were just reset while I was configuring WPS on my RT-AC87R with this firmware, 3.0.0.4.380_3264 First, I was redirect to http://ec2-54-202-251-7.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com/find/router.html, then I found my WIFIs are reset to default. The behavior is very strange. Is it a bug?

Ubiquiti Announces $89 AC1200 Access Point

I have had my Unifi AP-AC-Lite running for several weeks. So far so good. The best thing I love is that works great with my ASUS RT-AC87R router. Ubnt Unifi AP-AC-Lite has Min. RSSI setting, and RT-AC87R has Roaming Assistance. They work together perfectly on 5G, make my laptops and phones...

How can I define traditional QoS rules?

In matter of fact, I did. I tried swicthing Merlin and Stock a couple times and I did a factory reset once. Same problem. If the feature is not hidden somewhere, apparently it is a bug.
