Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

No, I haven't tried the router reset yet, after @glens reminded me that I could trick the router by giving the laptop a different MAC address. I will probably still try it when I have a bit of time. My old router was an RT-AC86U, and speeds were about 50% better with that, doing the same read...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Thanks, and it made no difference, so I guess (as I suspected) I was clutching at straws. I also opened up the laptop to have a closer look at the WiFi card, which was indeed on the motherboard. To my untrained eye, there was nothing wrong with the connections to the antennas. Laptop is only...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Oh, it was just that... I did previously (on the old router) set the T490 to low priority in the QoS settings, and then I think I noticed at some stage that I had accidentally carried it over to the new router. Even though I fixed it in the router gui, I wonder if maybe something is still wrong...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Here's the output of the first two commands (with the signal readings taken a room or so away from the router, with at least one brick wall in between). Sorry, I don't understand the third command. https://pastebin.com/28m6dUW0

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Right, that's what I was doing, and it made no difference to the speed of reading from the NAS when I booted Linux Mint off a faster USB drive (still 31 MB/s). What did help to some extent was choosing the FTP option in Linux to read off the NAS instead of "file sharing" (presumably SMB). Using...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

It does report 866 when it's in the same room as the router. In other rooms the link speeds (and dBm values from the router) look solid compared to other devices on the LAN, so this seems to suggest there is nothing wrong with the antennas, or do I misunderstand something?

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Sadly, this didn't make any difference to the amazingly consistent 15 MB/s download speed. For a moment, after I looked at the laptop's power settings, I thought I'd made a schoolboy error, because the Windows power scheme for "on battery" included "Moderate" power savings for the WiFi (even...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

I did this today... On Linux the laptop can read a large file from the NAS at almost 31 MB/s, roughly twice the speed it gets under Windows 10. So this suggests a Windows problem? I missed this question, but it can read from the NAS at about 65 MB/s over ethernet, so I assume the NAS is not the...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Yes, I came to that conclusion too. There are one or two threads on reddit where people are bemoaning this "madness", which I agree with. Thanks for all the various suggestions. I worked through most of them today that if I hadn't already tried, but not yet Linux Mint. The speed I get is...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Thanks for all the replies that came in while I was asleep... (I am in Perth, Australia, and am 13 hours ahead of the east coast of the US. :) 1. I am using the Intel Driver Support Assistant, but will try rolling back to the latest one recommended by Lenovo, just in case that helps. (I have a...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Thanks for your reply... I tried an older (and cheaper) Lenovo E480, which is able to get much better transfer speeds to and from the NAS, even though it has what I always assumed to be an inferior Realtek WiFi adapter. So it does appear that the bottleneck is the Intel AC 9560 on the T490, or...

Slow WiFi with Intel AC 9560 on Asus GT-AX6000

Happy New Year everyone... I have a Lenovo T490 with an Intel AC 9560 WiFi card. My main router is an Asus GT-AX6000, running the latest Merlin firmware. My internet connection is only 100/20 FTTN/VDSL, but I regularly do large file transfers between the laptop and an (admittedly, old)...

Does binding a device to a node in AiMesh actually do anything?

If it bothers you enough to spend a few dollars on a cheap N300 range extender, something like this TP-Link device might help: https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0776QG4P8/. I had a similar but different problem with a pair of "smart" power sockets at the back of the yard, and I got out of trouble...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

This is really interesting... My two-week old GT-AX6000 had an odd problem on the beta firmware, where 2.4GHz would refuse connections after I had used the WPS button to toggle the WiFi off and on. (I do use this fairly often.) I rolled back to the last stable Merlin firmware, did a hard...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

Thanks for this. I have now rolled back my GT-AX6000 to 386 and 2.4 is working fine, even after using the toggle switch to turn WiFi off and then on. In hindsight, it might have been a warning that Asus has not yet released a 388 firmware for the GT-AX6000.

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I've narrowed down the problem to use of the radio toggle switch on the GT-AX6000 (WPS button reconfigured). Each time I turn WiFi off and then on, the 2.4GHz band becomes unavailable for all connections until I reboot. Since it's a new router I'm unsure of the best plan, given that I do use...

Beta Asuswrt-Merlin 388.1 Beta is available for select models

I bought a new GT-AX6000 two days ago and immediately installed the new Beta1 firmware, then upgraded yesterday to Beta2. All seems to be going OK, except that a couple of times the 2.4GHz WiFi has totally refused to accept connections after a start or reboot of the router. The problem went...

Wireless router with good coverage for a large home ?

Sorry, my mistake... I usually call them powerline adapters. No idea why I started writing PoE instead of EoP yesterday!
