RT-N66 Upgrade

I currently have a RT-N66R router and am looking to upgrade. Any suggestions are welcome as I am not loyal to any specific brand. The router is in an old 1200 sq ft apartment that's old - lath and plaster so I'm assuming that affects signal strength and I could use some better distance...
