    High Temp - 378.56

Thermal paste is more efficient than thermal pads. I had a similar experience when I upgraded the processor of my laptop. I substituted the thermal pad with some good thermal paste and, despite the faster processor, the temperatures felt down by 10 degrees. Me too, I have an AC68, overclocked to...

How to increase 5GHz wireless range for RT-AC68U

You're right, but here comes the antenna orientation. I use three 9dbi stylus antennas with the two external ones put in horizontal position and the central one put vertical. With this configuration at 2.4 GHz and 500 MW transmit power I am able to cover from the basement two overlying floors...

How to increase 5GHz wireless range for RT-AC68U

Any antenna with a gain greater than 0db (asus ones are 2 dbi) is not omnidirectional. In addition to that you are not playing with an antenna but with an array of them, so the radiation diagram is anything but omnidirectional.

How to increase 5GHz wireless range for RT-AC68U

But feeding signal with an opportune phase shift to an array can obtain the same result, that's how beamforming works. In practice theory is only partially applicable in normal environments as it's assumptions and results heavily depend on the environment that normally is free field. I our...

How to increase 5GHz wireless range for RT-AC68U

Don't forget MIMO. If a client is compatible (many portable devices are not), and, due to the increased power of the router is able to detect the connection, then the router is able to adjust the beam to improve the connection. Personally I changed my AC68 bootloader with the 1.0.21 USA one...

Issues with samba shares from USB drives on AC68U

With past firmwares, after a momentary loss of mains I had a similar problem with the attached drive. Only a power cycle was able to fully recover the problem. It means detach the power supply and all the attached cables, wait 5 minutes and then reattach everything and boot. Don't forget to...

Issues with samba shares from USB drives on AC68U

When rebooting do you power cycle the router?

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.55 is now available

In the changelog I see no mention about a new WiFi driver that was introduced in Beta 2 for AC68. Did you forget it or you switched back to the old driver?

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.52 is available

Yes, and format it Ext 3 or 4

    Asuswrt-Merlin 378.50 is out

If you can't go to rescue mode by pressing the reset button at power-on and leaving it pressed until the power led blinks, chances there are that something went wrong with your CFE upgrade. I assume that you already tried to power-cycled your router (swich it off, remove any attached plug, power...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.49 is out

Just enabled once, I will try.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.49 is out

I know that 49_6 is not supported, so I don't expect any update, but I guess it's worth to notice that jffs partition is not initialized. Anything else looks ok, even though I suppose that the system log is now stored in ram.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.49 is out

It's the Noise to Signal Ratio, detected by the router, that is located in the cellar, so same Signal, less Noise, the more is negative, the better it is. I edited my previous message, as I normally use the SNR for other Jobs, but that's not the case of the wireless log page. Otherwise you can...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.49 is out

The WIFI range/throughput can be a matter of CFE and not of Firmware, at least it was in my case. I own the AC68 since its arrival in Europe. Since then, whatever fimware I installed, the NSR ratio was stuck at -89 dbm at 2.4 GHz and at - 90 dbm at 5 GHz. With Merlin .49.4 (not tried .5 yet) I...

    Torrenting...best: practices/FW version/tweaks

I'm not more using the N66 and, even at that time I used transmission/entware to torrent. Slowdowns and errors I experienced were all related to ram occupation. The larger the shared files were, the higher the possibility to run out of memory. I'd suggest you to telnet/ssh to your router and...

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.48 is out

Just made a quick trip to official .3626. Both shares and NTP worked flawlessly. So the culprit is the new bootloader (hard to guess) or some differences in kernel?

    RT-AC68 - New firmware 3.0.0.4.376_3602 (AVOID)

So, better to wait next firmware release or that the CFE 1.2 EU is available in the CFE list thread.

    Asuswrt-Merlin 376.48 is out

Upgraded to 38_1 and it's running well (I do not rely on this router for nat loopback, as I am double natted)......but I don't know if I'm facing a new problem or not. One of the most important features of Merlin's build in my opinion is the possibility to have the router act as a master/ Wins...

    RT-AC68 - New firmware 3.0.0.4.376_3602 (AVOID)

So loading Merlin's builds solves the 5GHz problem, even with the new CFE?

    RT-AC68 - New firmware 3.0.0.4.376_3602 (AVOID)

a partly off-topic question. I'm still stuck with the very first version of the cfe because I red that in the newer ones the overclock was disabled. I currently run my router at 1000,800 and I am glad with it's performance. Upgrading to a newer cfe will prevent me to increment the clock of the...
