    UPS with Synology NAS

On the Synology forum I found this email that support wrote to a guy on the topic:

    UPS with Synology NAS

I have a APC Back-UPS ES 700 (BE700G-GR) which is connected via USB to my Synology DS1511+. Under the UPS I keep the NAS, the router and the cable-modem. At the beginning of the summer I simulated a power outage by disconnecting the power plug from the socket. The NAS did not shut down itself...

How many HomePlug units do I need?

Just for the sake of completeness, there are available powerline units which are also wifi access point. That might solve your issues.

How many HomePlug units do I need?

You need 4 units: One at the modem One at the wan port of the router One at the LAN port of the router One at the PC The first two need to be setup so that they create a first network The second two need to be setup so that they create a second network different from the first one. Remember...

Stuck: 5/6 bay, QNAP or Synology

JB is a "sensitive" topic in US, until legislation is not changed, better not to discuss it.

Stuck: 5/6 bay, QNAP or Synology

You're welcome. That's the good part of being member of a community, even if only a virtual one. To the best of my knowledge there isn't yet a jailbreak for the latest Apple TV 3, only for the two previous models. I personally have an ATV 2 jailbroken with Seas0npass in which I have installed...

Stuck: 5/6 bay, QNAP or Synology

Are you using the iTunes Server running on the DiskStation or do you use the server of one of your PC with the library located on the NAS? And, moreover, is your ATV jailbroken? If not, and if you are running the server on the NAS, the ATV cannot see it...

Stuck: 5/6 bay, QNAP or Synology

I hope that you were able to set up the iTunes Library on your DiskStation.

Stuck: 5/6 bay, QNAP or Synology

Were you able to finally set up VPN for remote connection to the NAS? If you employ 4 equal-size disks, it is my understanding that the SHR is actually implemented as a RAID 5 configuration, so there should be no difference in reliability I don't see reasons why it shouldn't work if you plug...

Stuck: 5/6 bay, QNAP or Synology

My data path is the following: (INTERNET) --- Cable 120/10 Mbps --- [Cable Modem] --- CAT 6a 1 Gbps --- [TimeCapsule Switch/Router] === 2xCAT 6a 1Gbps === [DS1511+] The TimeCapsule is also connected via a CAT 5e cable to a Devolo AVMini 500 Mbps Homeplug device to allow network over powerline...

    This is what I have: DS1511+ (running DSM OS 4.1-2661) with Intel D525 Atom CPU (dual-core @ 1.8GHz), 3GB RAM ( 800MHz DDR2 ), RAID6 volume of 5x 1.82 TiB HDD (Seagate Barracuda Green ST2000DL003, 64MB DDR400 cache, 4x 500GB platter) protected by APC Back-UPS ES 700 (BE700G-GR) Confirmed...

Stuck: 5/6 bay, QNAP or Synology

@canuckle I use a DS1511+ in a Apple-only environment to do most of the things you asked about. Will write more later today about the specific setup.

Expected wired speeds through wireless router?

Needless to ask if you did the test toward the same server no...? How many times did you repeat the test? Traffic on the network is always changing, therefore said measure is a stochastic variable, and a correct estimation of its value requires multiple measurements to have some meaning. In my...

    How to use iTunes Server?

Most probably the "iTunes Server" is running an open-source package called "Firefly Media Server" and while it does support DAAP (iTunes shared libraries) it doesn't support Home Sharing for the iOS devices or the pairing protocol used by the classic ATV. iOS requires either a synched or...

    Powerline Adapter Question

You only need 4 powerline adapters: one attached to your router, and one in each room you want to bring connection to. It's like a LAN, where the adapters share the common electric wiring. Since the adapters share the wiring, the bandwith gets divided between the adapters on concurrent use.
