Powerline adapter that doesn't block top outlet?

Extollo LANSocket 1500 doesn't block the top socket.

    Extollo Lan Socket 1500

At the moment, I can only give you a limited amount of information due to the limited amount of time I've had them, but something is better than nothing. Residence: 50 or so year old house, with wiring to match. Probably 1,500 square feet. Shape of house: L-shaped, with converted garage at...

    Extollo Lan Socket 1500

Just received a pair of these yesterday and plugged in this morning. In short, they're awesome. If you'd like some background on my usage, ask away.

RT-AC66U - windows 8.1 cannot see the router Samba server / connected USB Drive

Windows 8.1 turned off SMB 1.0/CIFS support, by default. Control Panel > Programs and Features > Turn Windows features on or off > check "SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support" Drove me friggin' nuts for a couple of weeks on a fresh install of Windows 8.1, and trying to connect to both my AC66 and...

    2 networks 1 router?

Pickup something like one of the Zyxel Zywall 110. You can have two WAN connections and create multiple zones, thus segregating traffic within one router/firewall. Note: I have not worked with the Zyxel product, but reviews seem to indicate they offer quite a bit for the money. I use...

New House Network Design - UVerse ISP

How many ports do you need, and do you anticipate doing any VLAN, link aggregation, etc...? If you only need 5-8 ports, I've used the ones below and they work well so far. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005GGE72U/?tag=snbforums-20

New House Network Design - UVerse ISP

U-verse first line managers are completely clueless when it comes to any form of computer networking. POTS, and the "network" behind that would be a different story since the majority of first line U-verse managers I met came from the POTS side, and they knew that very well.

    Proposed ethernet cabling DIY project...

Wear some goggles if you have them, and a breather if you have one. I can't tell you how many times I came out of crawl spaces hacking and coughing during my miserable time with at&t U-verse.

Download Master not working after update

This, plus 100. Get rid of DownloadMaster. It's a resource intensive hog and junk. With the Entware/Transmission setup, there's no more disabling aMule, no hangs, no weird problems with the router. Do it. It's awesome. You'll thank yourself.

New House Network Design - UVerse ISP

Nothing significantly easier to setup, it's significantly easier to see which one you're connected to and can decide, without guessing, the one you *want* to be connected to. Yeah, stay away from the single SSID thing - it turns out to be a pain in the rear. I do it, but only with Ubiquiti...

    Ubiquiti UAP-LR (Long Range) Reviewed

A bit late replying to this, but I believe you are missing the point of the Ubiquiti line. These are aimed at multi unit installations, not single units. The software to manage these units as a whole is a God send for this price point. I have two customers setup with these at their houses, each...

New House Network Design - UVerse ISP

Ugh, precisely the reason I dislike those inset wiring solutions - no space! What you might do is fashion some L brackets, or some wood brackets that will allow the patch panel to sit perpendicular to the back of the enclosure. You absolutely want to fasten those cables down so they don't...

New House Network Design - UVerse ISP

The 110 block is all phone, not data. The CAT5/e/6/whatever have been wired onto a block for phone usage. I think you will find all of those blocks are bridged together, with each color forming one part of the bridge. Meaning, there will be continuity between all the blue portions, etc... Get...

Pls Help - Neighbor downstairs neighbor is blowing up my WiFi

As others have stated, trying to fix a wireless problem by throwing software, or more wireless power isn't going to fix it. Maybe, just maybe, more power could help a smidge, but not likely. 5 GHz and more access points connected via Ethernet are your answer.

TZ 190 slow speed (no services or bandwidth management)

I don't recall if SonicOS 4.2 has this setting, but in 5x, in the security section there is a dropdown box for "Maximum Security" or "Maximum Performance". If that's there, give it a try. Outside of that, the Sonicwall rep is correct that the stated performance for SPI only is 90 Mbps. Best you...

    Advice for Network at House

Ugh, no. It doesn't matter if the AP/router/whatever has 1000 Watts of transmit power. If the client cannot transmit back due to distance, obstruction, whatever, there is no reason to go with the "more power" mantra. Design it correctly, with multiple AP's in strategic locations and get...

New House Network Design - UVerse ISP

If it's true U-verse, and not the "DSL branded under the U-verse name" then getting a regular old DSL modem is not an option. U-verse, being driven out of a VRAD in the neighborhood. DSL, being driven out of the DSLAM in the CO.

using Powerline or moca for downstairs wifi

Yes, you can do exactly as you describe in the picture. If whatever router you put downstairs supports configuration as an access point, do that. Else, turn off every option you can for routing and firewalling, turn off the DHCP server. Basically, make it as dumb as possible, while leaving...
