Asus RT-AC68U wireless bridge not working AsusMerlin

All I did was switch the mode to "media bridge", gave it the IP that I had already reserved on my gateway (Netgear R7000), selected my 5 ghz network, and hit apply. Now somehow the Asus has a random IP address way out side the range of my gateway and not the IP that I gave it (but it does show up as connected to my gateway). The subnet mask is also different. If I plug in a laptop to the Asus I cannot access it in any way wired or wireless, and no gateway is listed on the laptop. None of the devices plugged into the Asus can access the network.
What am I missing?

Have you used the Discovery Utility? What values does it give you?

In Media bridge mode, the DHCP-assigned IP address changes. Install and use the Device Discovery Utility to get the wireless router's new IP address.

Am wondering why you "gave it the IP", when you are setting up a bridge. On all my bridge installs with the wizard, have never attempted to give the unit an IP address. Instead am only picking out the wireless network that the unit is supposed to bridge to, and then when am done, the bridge basically "disappears".

Could you reset your router and then run the wizard again, and don't attempt to assign it some kind of IP address? My guess is that everything will work fine.
