New Around Here
Just picked up a AC87U router and was under the assumption that for backup purposes I could use the Smart Sync feature, this turned out to be a very bare bones feature with no scheduling or logging and just didn't work very well.

So I upgraded to Merlin firmware to attempt to make my own backup job based on the following concept:
  1. Mount remote webdav
  2. Use rsync to sync contents of USB attached drive to webdav mount
  3. Schedule script to run in a cron job (persists through reboot)

I have very bare bones understanding of linux but managed to do the following:
  • Installing entware and packages required (rsync, davfs2)
  • Mount webdav manually
  • Create rsync bash script
  • Do a manual full backup

What I'm still missing is:
  • Automate webdav mounting on WAN UP (fstab)
  • Unmount neatly on reboot?
  • Schedule my backup script (script includes a maximum of 8 hours to run rsync and would like to start it at 1AM)

I have tried to do the above but most of the information I find is not relevant to Asuswrt's way of doing things so I keep running into dead ends and no way to troubleshoot effectively.

Anyone done something similar and is willing to help me out?
