Backup to Buffalo LS-XHL NAS

I have a couple of Buffalo LS-XHL NAS's and would like to use them for backup. Are there any NAS brands (other than Buffalo) that will perform a scheduled backup to them? I believe they run rsync for their own backups, but don't know if a different brand can back up to them.

Synology says that:

a Synology NAS can also perform a one-way scheduled backup, or one-way sync, to another device running rsync.​

Has anyone ever tried backing up a Synology NAS to a different brand? I am considering buying their DS216+.
