The Bluetooth SIG announced that the consortium’s next generation of wireless connectivity will be mesh-enabled. Bluetooth Mesh, as others are calling it, will let Bluetooth LE devices create a mesh network with other Bluetooth (spec level v.4 and above) devices, treating them like nodes on a network. Using an m:m (many to many) approach, the new meshed version will benefit wireless/IoT connections by providing self-healing Bluetooth networks that can potentially support up to thousands of devices and eliminating single points of failure.

One example would be using smart bulbs to relay commands from one Bluetooth Mesh device to another Bluetooth Mesh device in another room sitting outside of typical Bluetooth range.

Wide adoption may take a while, but Bluetooth Mesh specifications and tools are available now on the Bluetooth website.

RIP latency, privacy.
The mesh can really extend the range. Pair a bluetooth mouse and use it far away to control someone's PC :p . Dont forget the various snooping methods too.

A lot of 2.4Ghz devices say they have encryption but dont use it such as microsoft keyboards.

@System Error Message - The Bluetooth Mesh stuff - study up on BTLE - it's more secure that old-school BT...

Interesting stuff - and a shot across the bow of Zigbee and other local IoT platforms...

the problem is that manufacturers arent going to implement the security as has been happening. I've seen various 2.4Ghz datasheets and they pack a lot of features and capability but they dont get implemented or used.
