Device not detected on switch

Hi guys.
I am using a d link 5 port Ethernet switch and have connected an inverter to read its values on the switch. I can detect and access the inverter on my laptop directly but cannot do so when everything is connected on the switch. Have used this configuration in other projects and with exact devices without any trouble.
Have tried changing the switch, ports on the switch. Not working.
Need help urgently.

could be because its d-link. Try using a managed switch instead as you wont need an inverter.

You're probably looking for a hub, not a switch...

With a managed switch, you can configure a port for mirroring - which is perhaps another approach - but on the desktop, tinkering about, an ethernet hub is pretty easy to manage, as all traffic is broadcast on all ports.
