Last update from merlin bricked my router
Problem is router is in rescue mode - not booting
if i try to reflash image it is not flashing

Try to nvram erase and reboot.
 
Check the version of the AC66U. There is a B1 version with front USB port that uses a different firmware.
 
yes, flashing always ends with nflash_write: failed with status 0xff
Can you ping the router? If so, what is the TTL value?
 
He can ping it, the router is in Recovery Mode, TTL=100.
 
Then time to try tftp.
 
There are good instructions on how to tftp firmware on dd-wrt.com. I used it to flash Merlin FW on the first one I bought as I was getting error msg when trying to flash via web GUI. Worked great. Luckily, it was a one time issue and the two I purchased afterwards did not have this problem.
