Need some help with not being able to access my AC 1900

I did something stupid.

I was looking around the Administration under Advanced settings and selected System
I saw that the authentication method can be changed from both to only "https" ... so I changed it and pushed
apply.

Now I get this

"Settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-AC68U.
To access the settings of RT-AC68U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number."

So, I try to reconnect to 192.168.1.1.... but keep getting the same thing!

My question.. How do I reconnect to my router?
Is there a "default port" that is used so that I can quote that. I am on my LAN, so I don't know why this is an issue? Since I am not coming in from the WAN.
OR do I have to reset back to factory?

Puzzled

not as bad as being locked out your own tp-link PLAs, their control software is getting worse with every update, it keeps losing features and things not working.

you could try emptying your browser cookies, sessions and such. You could also try the https port as well and if the default https port doesnt work than use port 8443 like this - https://192.168.1.1:8443

Thanks.. Should have guessed... 8443 is a common port.
I should have taken a screen shot before I hit apply. The port setting is clearly stated.
And I am in error. I think that the authentication is for accessing the router across the LAN. i.e. requiring use of https and a port.
Or if I am mistaken please correct me.

A little less Puzzled

I get that all the time from my ASUS with Firefox. Very annoying.

Clear the old security certificate from your browser. You'll find it stored under the router's IP address.

What I do if I'm in a hurry is just use Chrome. It doesn't have the problem.

Funny you say this.. Since I AM using CHROME!
I was looking into the certificates.. but I don't see any listed for the router's IP address.,.. maybe I'm not looking in the right area?

That page is stored in the HTML5 "Offline storage" portion of the browser. It's definitely annoying, as it usually show you the wrong message anyway.

In Firefox, there's an option to erase "Offline web content" under Advanced options.

Nope, same error. I should add that I am not having the problems noted earlier in this thread, only that the secure log-in https is not accepted. Regular http://192.168.1.1 works just fine (John's Fork 374.43_2-22E4j9527).
There is no Mainlogin or Main_Login page on my fork. The default page is
https://192.168.1.1:8443/index.asp
which should bring up an http password window

So, two suggestions.....
- If you are using a password manager, disable it for the router address in case it picked up a wrong userid/password
- Delete and re-add the SSL certificate. If you are running Chrome 56 it has gotten really picky about certs. You can no longer manage the certs from the basic browser window (no more paddlock icon in the address bar). You need to do it from developer tools.

John, thank you for your reply.

None of the https options work, same error as above. Same error in Firefox and Edge also. No password manager.

I couldn't find an SSL option in Developer Tools, that just inspected the currently-viewed page. I added Chrome to the Windows Firewall permissions.

In practice this presents no problem for me since http still connects just fine.

Thanks again!

[EDIT: Of course, it works as suggested if I set Administration > Web Access > Authentication Method > BOTH  ]
