Tracking something with OS X 10.11 where the built-in firewall is reducing throughput - not a router or wireless issue, as it impacts Ethernet performance as well as well as wireless. Disable the built-in firewall, and performance returns.

Initial benchmarks are limiting throughput to around 2Mbps in some apps... There is some app sensitivity, as UDP pushes seem to be fine.

It's a new 10.11 issue, as 10.10 and earlier do not have this behavior.

Thanks for the heads up. Almost cannot resist to wait until 10.11.1. Now there is a sound reason.

on windows, I disable the OS firewall - as my trust is in my router.
A laptop, out in public, I'd enable it.

Is it a firewall issue? Or an AV scanning issue? I've seen performance issues with AV scanning on windows, even LAN file transfers can sometimes grind to a halt (example, transfer 14MB TIFFs happens at about 40MB/sec between my desktop and server, 14MB ORFs happen at about 160MB/sec, one triggers Windows Defender virus scanning, one does not).

Windows 7.. free Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) as the anti-virus/malware is my preference.
Doesn't seem to diminish throughput. 60+MB/s per Speedtest.net and that much or more from my NAS for big files.

Seems to be more firewall than anything else... day job has kept me away from debugging it further today...
