I just picked up this R7500 a few days ago, I am coming from having the asus AC87R router which is a good router dont get me wrong but I was having major issues with my 4 gaming consoles. I tried merlins FW and all the beta FW they came out, which in my opinion broke more stuff then it fixed, I just got tried of it.

Anyways I have about 14 devices that are on my wifi and 4 that are hard wired. The issue that I am having is that if I enable QOS on this router, I take a big hit on my speed tests for some reason. I have TWC 300 down 20 up. Now on the asus router if I enabled QOS or did not use QOS I would still get the same results from my speed tests, 322 down 22 up.

With the R7500 and QOS enabled my speed tests are 120 down and 10 to 15 up with out the QOS I get my regular speeeds 322 down 22 up.

So I am wondering why is it that with this router I take a big hit on my speeds when QOS is enabled. I like to use the QOS because we play alot of online games and we would benefit from the QOS.

Also with the speeds that I have do I really need QOS, the R7500 manual says that if I have speeds above 250 then QOS is not needed???

Let me say this I do not have any usb devices connected to the router, dont really use those features.

My set-up

Cable Modem: Motorola SB6183
Router: Netgear R7500

Well hope someone can give me some advice or lead me in the right direction, maybe I have some settings wrong dont know

thanks for you help guys.

Ok i heard the the Other way arround. Advanced QOS from wave 2 ready r7500 works better with connections beyond 50Mb/s So that even the most demanding clients the network speed is reliable.

For this Speed test just ignore it. It could also be one factor considering as application even when speed test being used it doesnt want to allow all the bandwidth to be used by one application so that other devices also gets the bandwith.

Not you try this way turn off the wifi and connect only one device wired and see even now the bandwidth is throtlled with QOS on/off.

I am not sure if the above scenario was your question. But give it a try again. No devices in the network is connected.

Speedtest never tells a real speed as the ISP works in different way say one good examble buffer float. where the high demanding application the speed will hit and go beyond the speed. it is only visible from DSL reports.

Second now turn on wifi and just one by one and see if the test results keeps discussion. being advanced qos it migh had to take consideration fo how many devices and what type of application being used so that the bandwidth is rightly delivered. But still as mention its hard enough to decide bandwidth with more than 300Mb/s but still its not that high bandwith to not being able to handle. Say with 326Mb/s the max 40MB/s is feasible wow that close to usb 2.0 Maximum.

With 14 devices connected each can get upto 2.8MB/s that awesome speed for any type of application. But 20Mb/s upload is on low side. Say max 2.5MB/s available for 14 devices. that roughly 180KB/s still WOW.

Goahead and post the test results.

Thanks for the reply man.

So I did what you said. I unplugged all my devices and turned wifi off. Before I enabled QOS I took a seedtest and got the same results like in my first post.

Now I took a speedtest from DSLreports with QOS enabled and these are the results.
