I have been having some intermittent issues on my wireless network. Here's my setup:

AC68U set as AP connected to TP-Link 8-port Gig switch, FiOS ActionTec Gig router serving as DHCP plus FiOS tv service, other devices LAN connected to switch. Apple Macbook Pro and various Apple devices wirelessly connected to 68U.

What happens at times is website timeouts; safari will just sit waiting for the remote site eventually timing out. Next try is successful and good for a while. So I do a ping from the 68U (via the network tools) to the Macbook and here is the result:

PING 192.168.1.152 (192.168.1.152): 56 data bytes

64 bytes from 192.168.1.152: seq=14 ttl=64 time=91.010 ms

--- 192.168.1.152 ping statistics ---
15 packets transmitted, 15 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max = 1.120/133.006/269.693 ms

I have tried both the 5G and 2.4G bands with similar results. Yet if I go into terminal and ping the 68U or the FiOS router on same subnet ping times are under 2-ms. And I get the same results pinging via the 68U to any wireless Apple device. Just for fun, since I have an HP wireless printer, if I ping that ping times are again 2-ms or lower. And pinging from the 68U to any wired device pings times are great.

Any ideas where I should go next to resolve my issues?

UPDATE: I brought my Macbook in the room where the 68U is connected so there would be a full strong signal. Then I did the same ping test within the 68U to my connected Macbook. Same bad ping times. Then I connected the Macbook with ethernet to the network and did the same internal ping test - times were < 1ms. Also when wifi connected and pinging from my Win7 PC ethernet connected I still had bad ping times, although a little less that through the 68U utility.

Then I replaced the 68U with my old standby Netgear R6300V1. Connected 5G and the ping times from the WIn7 PC was between 2-4ms. So my conclusion is the 68U is the problem. Hard to believe it only lasted 2 years to the day.

Any good suggestions for a replacement?

Hi,

I suggest that you install the latest firmware (either Asus or Merlin version) and do a factory reset after the update. Then reconfigure the AC68U as Access Point and test again - maybe it runs then fine...

With kind regards

I've tried that a few times including Merlin's and ASUS firmware.

UPDATE: well I know why I replaced the R6300 with the 68U in the first place. It really processes packets so slowly compared to the Asus. Web pages, FTP, etc. is so much faster with the 68U. So even with the intermittent connectivity issues I'm back to the Asus in the network, running Merlin's latest.
