really frustrated. any help appreciate.

I have an asus rt-68cu. most recent firmware.

I changed my password for wireless and and now I get this message on GUI (chrome) (win 10):

"settings have been updated. Web page will now refresh.
Changes have been made to the IP address or port number. You will now be disconnected from RT-N68U
To access the settings of RT-N68U, reconnect to the wireless network and use the updated IP address and port number."

I cleared my chrome cache. nothing. I did the chrome://appcache-internals/# and remove prior references too.

Then i did a firmware restore using asus restore utility and it FAILED. Then I kept trying various https of 192.168.1.1 with and without :80 and 4883 (i googled ok).

All the while my network cable is connected to LAN port 1 (not WAN ~ the blue plug).

And out of desperation I accessed the 2g wifi on the asus and voila I had access to the route.

But not with 5g wifi which i tried after and not with the network cable either (it's like it does not exist).

My question is how can I access the router via the network cable? As is I can only access it via wifi 2g unless i do a factory reset and the problem restarts as soon as I try to change the password.

help. thanks////

Try to ping the router. Open up a windows cmd prompt and enter "ping 192.168.1.1" or what ever you last used. Instructions for accessing gui here:

If you have problems with the above, you may need to enter a static ip address in your client. For example say it is a Windows laptop. You can use the following guide:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/19249/how-to-assign-a-static-ip-address-in-xp-vista-or-windows-7/

If the router does not respond at a ping, or if the power light is blinking, use first the arp -s command.

This command allows to attach an IP address to the unique MAC (or physical address) of the device. The MAC address appears on the label stuck on the bottom of the device, and is a twelve hexadecimal digits long number, looking like aabbccddeeff. This number has to be entered as follows: aa-bb-cc-dd-ee-ff, with dashes separating the pairs of digits.
