I noticed that the clock in the router is about 30 sec. off. The uptime has been 16 days, and according to the log, NTP synchronization was made only once, when it was starting 16 days ago. Maybe it would make sense to make it regular?

NTP should refresh its time every 12 hours (or every hour when in a DST-enabled zone), however it won't generate a log entry when it does so, as users previously complained about the log spam.

So his router is off by 30 seconds in 12 hours?! That seems really bad.

If you sync every 12 hour with only 30 seconds off, it's not that bad..

Run a true NTP daemon to keep a more accurate clock..down to a few milli second offset.
