I am looking for ways to optimize wireless for better range and speed. I have an app on my phone that is telling me that channel 14 is the best signal strength, but I only see up to channel 11. On the 5ghz side, it said 149 is best, so I hard-coded it to 149 there.

Ho can I get to channel 14? More importantly, how can I maximize range and speed?

I have my Asus RT-AC68U in my basement. It is running merlin version 376.47.

I put a hard-wired router on my top floor with a wireless network there but its only 2.4.

I'm just looking to get the best out of what I have.

Thanks

I think I've got the same app! :) You have to go into its settings and tell it what channels are available in your area because it doesn't know itself. So if you're in the US you'd set it for channels 1-11, if you're in the UK you'd set it for 1-13. Channel was only ever used in Japan for 802.11b. That way the app will stop suggesting channels you can't use.
