I've tried all suggestions still running the same firmware as before and the lag has started to come back just as bad as it was before. In halo, it normally takes 5 shots with a DMR to kill someone. It takes me 7 or 8 before they register and then you will see them die and there body will do this skip/teleport thing onto the ground. It's terrible.

I think it´s in the game. If you google Halo LAG or see youtube videos. It´s not you I think it´s the matchmaking or something like this.

I think you have to wait for an patch.

Welp, looks like I have found an "odd" fix. By disabling UPnP, the lag issues have been non-existent. I've had it like this for two days not and have had a perfectly good connection. Only problem now is that my NAT is no longer open and is moderate. Any idea what could be going on here?

for me it ios the same - with port forward or UPnP all my connections are laggy - but I need open Nat because I can´t join some parties with moderate nat :(

I think I know where the lag comes from !

with Padavan´s alternative Firmware you can check your connections.

normally it´s like this:

my internal IP on port 3074 udp to some public IP on port 3074 and so on

but with open NAT I also see

public IP on port 65xxx to public IP on port 3074

both public IP´s are NOT mine. That means that xbox live uses my connection for 2 other xboxes even if I´m NOT Host.

If my NAT is moderate ONLY my internal IP´s connect to some other public IP´s.

How do you propose that we fix this? I see the same thing that you do - and it makes perfect sense why it is laggy.

I don´t know. But I will test some scenarios:

the only connections I see ist outgoing to port 3074 udp.

1. I try to delete ALL Portforward except port 3074 udp/tcp and I will watch the connections then. Because yesterday I saw a connection outgoing on port 1025 on my Router to port 3074. Port 1025 could be an Virus or an exploit.
http://www.linklogger.com/TCP1025.htm
I don´t know how it works but: If my opponent has a Virus on his computer and his Router connects to my Router and my port 80 is open I´m not sure if the Virus could use it and then try to connect over port 1025? But like I said I´m not sure how it works. So I try to disable all Port Forward except 3074.

2. I test with lan/wan Filter in Firewall settings If I can do something. But not sure about what to set :(

3. Port triggering instead of port Forwarding could be an option. I will only trigger Port 3074

For sure is UPnP and DMZ I will never use again.

OK, I have found the best setting for me.

I gave my xbox an static IP and then port forward ONLY port 3074 TCP/UDP (both)

My NAT is open so I can Host games and join every party. If I´m not host - the game feels like i play moderate NAT so almost NO lags. If I´m the host (in MW3 for example) the lags are so much better it´s unbelievable.

Also the connection screen looks much better.

I think it has something to do with a closed port 80 and 53.

Forget it - it was only for 1 day. ALL the lags are back. Nothing beats moderate NAT !

NOW it´s proofed - if you have an open NAT (ports open) and play against some moderate and strict NATS you have to co host the session - even if you are not host.

you need a powerpoint viewer to read this. But read Solution 4. I think it increases latency for you. The connection will be good if there are many open NAT´s in your session but if not you get lag lag lag.

I know you guys have gone through a lot of settings trying to resolve this issue. I also noted that you are using Padavan's custom firmware.

In the router settings/advanced settings/firewall Click Netfilterand have you tried the different options under NAT type? Full Cone, restricted and classical linux/hybrid nat?

I would think that Full Cone might resolve the issue. Good luck.

I don´t think so - because if I put my xbox in the DMZ I also co host connections.

If you read here (you need powerpoint viewer) Solution No4 you will see it.

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/downl...s.aspx?id=7288

If I understand Solution 4 right then:

let me explain:

A strict NAT and a moderate NAT can´t connect to each other.
But they can both connect to an open NAT.

think we have 4 players

1. player open NAT choosen as host
2. player open NAT not host
3. player moderate nat
4. player strict nat.

connections:

1. player connect to all and all connect to him
2. player connect to all and all connect to him
3. player connect to player 1 and 2 but NOT 4
4. player connect to player 1 and 2 but not 3

the connection between player 3 and 4 has to be bridged. xbox live chooses an open nat with enough bandwith for example player 2.

If player 3 shoots on player 4 for example the packets can´t go direct to player 4 (remember they can´t connect to each other) it takes the route over player 2. So the latency for player 2 increases because he co host the session for player 3 against player 4.

If your game session have many open NAT´s and only some moderate NAT´s there is no problem - but if there are some strict NAT´s ALL connections between them and between all moderate NAT´s needs an open NAT who run their session. This increase latency for the open NAT owner.

If you disable all Port Forward and DMZ and also UPnP then you get a moderate NAT. You can´t co host Sessions, because you can´t connect to all the strict NAT´s. You the get only "normal" lag (because of distance because of ping and so on) but you get no lag because of co hosting too many sessions.

I´m not a specialist in Networking and many things I don´t know. But with a moderate NAT ALL games on xbox live run much better for me. Read the microsoft powerpoint and you see that it works like I wrote or similar :)

For me all the lag started with better Internetconnection. My Bandwith was much higher than before and my ping times is much lower. So I think if you have enough available Bandwith xbox live matchmaking will choose you as host.

So if you read that people limit their upstream and it helps then - it´s not because of game mechanics it´s because the bandwith is too low to co host I think (this is NOT in the powerpoint from microsoft)

in the official Forum xbox live I found this. Because I tested wired and wireless and so on I checked it and for me it´s the same - it´s like i´m double connected. To solve it I connected wireless and then go in Dashboard Wireless settings and deleted the connection to my Router. Then I pluged my wire in and no wireless connection is there. My xbox doesn´t try to connect to my router if I play wired. Strange Problem - I hope Microsoft fixes this Bug.

I think I found a BUG in xbox live.

In earlier times I connected my xbox wireless to my Router and saved my WPA Wireless Key. Today I play wired. On my router I have a DHCP reservation for my xbox.

On my Router I can see all connections going to and from my Router. And today I searched something else and clicked to my wireless MENUE in my Router. And there was my xbox connected?? The connection was active although my xbox is connected by wire. To solve the Problem I dissalowed my xbox to connect wireless. And on my Router menue it was dropped instandly. But I was online like before and don´t loose my connection. It seems like I was double connected.

How to reproduce the Problem: connect a xbox wireless and save the WPA key. Then connect the xbox wired and you will see, that xbox connect to the Router wired AND wireless. Maybe all my lag Problems are because of that?

I beat most of the lag

I beat most of the lag.

How?

I disabled WMM in Wireless Settings. (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz professional TAB) I don´t play Wireless but THIS setting caused all the lag. I don´t know if WMM is always running or how it works excatly - but with disabled WMM it´s the first Time I can play Call of Duty off and on Host - I´m not behind anymore.

Is it possible that WMM is always running? Even if I don´t play wireless?

I think:

It´s like QOS and it seems to run all the time. If you host games then there are too many connections to handle (xbox is p2p) - you are behind.

If you want to beat LAG then disable this feature - even if you don´t play wireless.

Be advised disabling WMM support will result in your router reverting back to a G class router. You will no longer get any speeds higher then about 25 Mbps if your happy with that then go for it. I would not be happy with a N router that only workers as a old G router. 2.4 ghz band will revert to G and the 5 ghz band will revert to A .

Hi Mat77,
Have you ever had the Xbox connected with wireless ?
If the wireless settings are still stored in xbox there can be a conflict causing the xbox to constantly switch between wired and wireless slowing download speeds and causing all sorts of problems.

Connect wireless and remove the network settings, then power-off and connect using wired and reconfigure - as it will not let you into wireless settings while Ethernet is plugged in.

I know this Problem (read about in xbox live Forum). The xbox connected wired AND wireless if you have wireless Settings enabled and then switch back. I proved it myself. I removed the wireless settings.
