pfsense web site seems to be down. Can anybody get to the web site? I have called TWC and they are not able to get to the web site. So it is either a TWC problem or pfsense is down.

I wonder if they use pfsense as their router?

Works fine here...

dig pfsense.org <-- pointed towards my router...

See?

Perhaps folks are overthinking things...

cat /etc/resolv.conf

nameserver 127.0.0.1
search <my domain>
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
nameserver 2001:4860:4860::8888
nameserver 2001:4860:4860::8844

I'm not seeing any problem here...

If you use the Resolver, it will not use any DNS you set on general setup.

Do you have any update / comments considering the recent news on Atom C2000 series please? I am in the market for a PfSense platform. Thanks

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2017/02/06/cisco_intel_decline_to_link_product_warning_to_faulty_chip/

I would stay away from atom based products for now. Cisco is saying products with "the chip" will permanently refuse to boot after ~18 months...

there seems to be a lot of hype over this - pageviews and clickbait...

Most vendors - Netgate included - have offered warranty extensions...

STH probably has the best coverage on the issue...

https://www.servethehome.com/intel-atom-c2000-series-bug-quiet/

I wouldn't worry about Netgate or the pfSense logo'ed devices - summary here...

https://www.snbforums.com/threads/pfsense-intel-c2000-errata-avr-58-netgate-pfsense-summary.38391/

TL;DR - It's a good box - I've had it for close to a year now - and no concerns, no worries...

It just works - and if it fails, it fails... after doing some research - I think the SG-2***/RCE-VE-2*** series is a good purchase as purpose built HW for pfSense...

Thanks. I saw that. I will look out for an alternative to load PfSense.

It's a non-issue with Netgate - so look at the 2220 or the 2440 boxes - pretty stout machines, and pfsense 2.3 is better than most consumer routers...

Thank you.

I am basically toying between (1) refurbished HP z220 sporting Xeon E3-2270.v2 / i7 3770 workstation costing about £250-£300, (2) new build using i3 7100 costing about £600 and (3) Netgate 2000 series for PfSense.
