Quantenna announced the first 802.11AX chipset to enter the wireless market. The dual-band QRS10G-AX yields access point functionality and promises to continue to build upon the 802.11 IEEE wireless standard by adding more features and functionality to help cope with the rising number of online IoT devices and challenges brought about in densely populated environments. Aside from increased speed, AX aims to increase the number of simultaneous clients.

The OFDMA enabled QRS10G-AX supports up to twelve streams - eight streams at 5 GHz and four streams at 2.4 GHz, improving over traditional 802.11ac’s eight maximum streams.

Note: Quantenna announced a twelve stream Wireless AC Wave 3 platform in January 2016. Thanks connorm.

Other listed features for the QRS10G-AX include
  • Pin-to-pin compatibility with the older QRS10G chipset allows for easier transition to Wireless AX,
  • Support for PCIe (Gen 2/3), RXAUI, RGMII, etc,
  • Offload for external hosts
  • Cloud management capability
Quantenna will begin sampling the QRS10G-AX in early 2017.

Quantenna also announced it has launched its IPO for 6.7 million shares at an initial price range of $14.00 to $16.00 per share. Quantenna has applied to list its common stock on the NASDAQ Global Select Market under the ticker symbol "QTNA."
