New Around Here
I'm getting random phones and devices showing up on my windows 10 computer. I did a search and found some hits you can see below. I want stop the issue at the router rather than computer like most solutions. I don't think this is just an Asus/Merlin issue and the internet says that it's actually a feature of Microsoft's implementation of WPS and there is nothing to be worried about. Actually it's a good thing. But lets just pretend for a second that I'm not a crazy conspiracy thoery nutcase. I'm definitely NOT, in fact the crazy conspiracy theory nutcase has actually got into power and made the NSA give him a phone that can hax0r anyone (https://www.cnet.com/news/donald-tr...phone-secret-service-washington-inauguration/), well after their teams comprise the target systems first. Well it's a bit more complicated than that since the NSA recently got a new Russian hax0ring team, well a few small teams of nerds and also one to take over management. They promised to bring in billions of savings, which Obama's lackeys wasted on silly firewalls, in fact over 4 years that's like $60bn. That can now be spent on proper protections like... real walls.

So basically 1337 Russian Hax0rs are hacking me in 3D. That's right they couldn't get past my protection in 2D but used a hack to set them all on fire and in 3D they used a wireframe wall hack to see past my fire walls. Here is a picture I took of them haxoring me http://imgur.com/a/EOiBe. I now can see random phones popping up on my network with random macs and different names (all probably just that NSA phone changing it's mac every 30 minutes).

When I serached google I found a few hits on people saying they used Asus routers and some that also specified Merlin firmware, so it maybe a more general problem. The router logs don't show any of these phones. So basically what setting do I need to use on the Asus merlin firmware in order to stop phones showing up on my network?

Wha?? Hacking in 2D vs 3D? Are you serious? Silly firewalls? A hacker doesn't stop another hacker...proper layers of security controls are the only things that stop other hackers. Firewalls are just one layer of protection.

All I am reading here is that more than likely you have an insecure setting on your router you may need to lock down. The overlock thread states to make sure WPS is disabled on the WiFi device. I haven't kept WPS enabled ever so not sure if that is the culprit or not.

WPS ?? o_O:rolleyes::rolleyes: if you have that turned on you are inviting trouble.

As AndreiV suggested. Turning WPS off on our RT-AC68U did the trick for us. Thought it was disabled but found it turned on after recent firmware upgrade. Could have been a cockpit error on our part....it's off now and no more mystery devices :)

The WPS option seems to have done the trick. I still don't undertstand how WPS which is suppose to control access to the network allows unauthorized devices to leak data/details onto the network.

Type this " danger of using WPS " in to Google and you'll get pages of answers.

The first 3 articles explain things nicely :
