Which is a better setup for a home user concerned with security (more than average) that just wants to be able to access a few services on my internal LAN while away?

option 1:
I have an Asus ac68 router that has OpenVPN built in. Simply use this service that is behind the ISP's modem?

option 2:
Prior to having the Asus router I ran a old Mac Mini behind my old router with OSX Server's VPN service with the LT2P/IPsec protocol with the appropriate ports forwarded on my router.

Thanks for any input.

For in-bound VPN - the Mac will outperform the RT-Ac68U by a significant margin - even an older G4 mini running OSX Server 10.5 - it comes down to just more compute resources, more RAM...
