New Around Here
I'm not a pro with routers, so please forgive me if I don't understand some advice.

I have a RT-AC87U that I have been using for almost 2 years. On Friday morning, it could not connect to the internet. Nothing new. No updates. I have Ethernet via Verizon FIOS that plugs directly from ONT box outside.

I can connect to internet if I plug the Ethernet into my computer. I also brought out my backup old RT-AC68U, plugged it in, and it connects like the day I unplugged it. No problems at all. It connects DHCP automatically, dynamic. No problems with internet.

Called Verizon - rebooted several times, nothing
Connected old Verizon supplied router and internet works
Factory reset several times
With Computer reboot several times
Called Asus - factory reset, nothing
Took photos of the setup of RT-AC68 and copied all to RT-AC87, nothing
Rolled firmware back to August Asus firmware update, nothing
Flashed Merlin August firmware, nothing
Bought new RT-AC87U, same issue.

Does anyone have any advice? (If so, please be detailed, as I am not super savvy with routers)
Thank you!

I'd run 'ipconfig /renew' and 'ipconfig /all' , see the result.

You have done good troubleshooting tests ;)

Now:
Can you provide us what is the fw(s) versions you are running on each routers plz. If i understand.. your old Ac87 cant reach internet and the new ac87 also?
Your wireless devices stayed connected to the router(87), or they loose wifi connectivity?
Do you see something in System log --General log?
When you bought your new 87, did you took the old AC adaptor or the new one in the box?
And finally , how are acting the leds on the router

Hello @Sanna1967 and thank you for looking at my issue.
I am running now 3.0.0.4_380.3459 on the new AC87 and had 3.0.0.4_378.9529.
Yes, my old AC87 cannot connect to internet and the new AC87 cannot connect to internet.
My wireless devices/clients all connect/stay connected to the router.
The System Log has all of the newly installed firmware information. It is a lot of information, so I'm not sure if you want me to post that?
I used the new AC adaptor that came with the new AC87.
The leds on the router all steady lit: 1 blue for power, 1 blue for 2.4GHz, 1 blue for 5GHz, 1 blue for Ethernet to my computer and 1 RED for the Fios Ethernet for the internet.
I appreciate any help you can give me.

Hello @TonyH and thank you also for looking at my issue. I apologize if I post unnecessary information, as I said, I'm not super savvy.

Sanna I have downloaded and flashed Merlin 380.62. nothing. with reboot. nothing.
I have also read the suggested thread. And even tried the suggested fix of post #41. nothing.
I rebooted, reset the router. nothing.
any other thoughts?

Wonder if WAN port is dead???

Haven't posted a syslog after boot yet....that may help. (Post to a sharing site and provide a link).

Tried this simple test? Plug cable between WAN port and LAN port. Both LED light should come on.

No
If you got a friend, who is willing to help, try your router on his modem

Have you tried all Lan ports 1 to 4?
Have you tested cables between router and modem and router and PC.You need Cat5e or Cat6 (just a idea).
Have you unplug the modem and router, and wait 15 mins. Then replug modem, let him settle 10 min , replug the router and wait 3 min.

You can also try clearing Nvram:
Turn off the router, press the WPS button (keep pressed), then turn on the router,. wait about 10 seconds(the leds will flash rapidly), then release the WPS button.Wait 3 mins and then try to reconfig again from scratch.

http://www.snbforums.com/threads/faq-nvram-and-factory-default-reset.22822/

I am running out of ideas now  , but two ac87 (old and new) with a defective Wan port at the same time ,would be surprising, but not impossible. You should go buy lotery ticket ;)

If someone else want to jump in , welcome.

I tried connecting Ethernet to all 4 Lan ports. nothing
I changed out the cable between my computer and the router. Pretty sure they are Cat5e - 8 wires.
I also tried unplugging for over 15 mins. Then plugged back in, and waited 3+ minutes. (I don't have a modem, as the Ethernet comes right in from the ONT outside.)
I also tried clearing Nvram using WPS button. Then reconfigured.
I really appreciate all of your advice! I thought surely we would have hit on something. But thank you for your help!

Thank you all for your help. It must be a hardware issue or the firmware that bricked the routers. I bought a AC3100 and worked perfectly right out of the box. Not doing any updates! Thanks again!
