RT-AC86U; unable to update from 386.2_0 to _2 or _4 (SOLVED)

Hi there,

trying to update from 386.2_0 shows immediately this error: "firmware upgrade unsuccessful. this may result from incorrect image or error transmission. please check the version of firmware and try again"
Despite this error message the progress bar finished to 100 percent, but the upgrade failed. The router remains on 386.2_0.
Reflashing 386.2_0 shows no problem.

Unplug ("unmount") all your USB devices, (a reboot will remount the drive) and try again.

Before you do the above, please check if you have the correct firmware for the correct router. You wouldn’t be the first trying to upgrade an AC router with AX firmware.

And the other thing to validate is your actually pointing at the firmware and not the zip file or something. Another feat we humans do from time to time.

Hazel you are right. I blindly tried the AX firmware. Thank you for the hint and thanks to all helping me.

Helps quickly from the menu know the status.

Or just change the Prefix to Solved
