Hello guys,

I have an issue with my N66U and setting up static routes and hope I can get some advice here.

Following is what I'm trying to do:

Gateway 1
ASUS n66U
IP address: 192.168.2.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Gateway 2
other router
IP address: 192.168.2.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

PC:
IP address: 192.168.2.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default GW: 192.168.2.1

Connect from PC to www.google.com [173.194.41.100] will go by default route via the default GW = 192.168.2.1

I now want to configure the n66U (192.168.2.1) to redirect only the traffic going to www.google.com [173.194.41.100] to GW 2 (192.168.2.2) instead of the WAN port.

How do I need to setup the n66U in order to do that?

Following configuration on the n66U - LAN - Static Route did not work (trace route shows that the n66U redirects the traffic to 192.168.2.2 and from there to google.com but accessing the same IP via the webbrowser give me a timeout - please note that it works perfectly when I set 192.168.2.2 as the default GW on the PC):

Host: 173.194.41.100
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
GW: 192.168.2.2
Metric: 1 (if set to metric 0 I can see that the router always adds the route as metric 1 in
any case in the routing table)
Interface: LAN

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

I imagine you might well have this sorted out by now but in case not..

I have an RT-N66U running Asuswrt Merlin 270.24 build (download at www.lostrealm.ca and update using normal method) and the static routing, whilst very limited does seem to work on this build at least.

I have a similar setup to you and I have the N66U at xxxx.1 and another mobile broadband router at x.x.x.11 both connected through a switch and with a static route of <host-ip set to resolution of www.google.com, netmask 255.255.255.255, gateway x.x.x.11, metric 1, interface LAN, pings get redirected through the Mobile Broadband gateway correctly . Web access to google of course can resolve to a number of different host IP addresses which makes practical use pretty tricky without DNS lookup in the routes.

The Asus is a nice router but a bit lacking in routing features for more advanced applications..

Hi,

unfortunately I have not yet figured it out.
Although it worked with the AVM Fritzbox before, the implementation in the n66u looks to be different.

I believed that the 2nd router's VPN connection would be able to tunnel through the n66u without the n66u redirecting the traffic. However when I configure the n66u to reroute traffic to the 2nd router so that this router can send it via vpn tunnel through the n66u, I get some kind of funny loop. Looks like the n66u is getting confused with the ip address inside the vpn tunnel and redirects it back to the 2nd router.
