New Around Here
As a retired paramedic, I do a bit of volunteer work near the US/Canadian border and need a data solution for my vehicle/RV that covers the following:

Primary Goals

  • Parked with ability to physically 'jack in'.
  • Parked / locally mobile with WiFi access via 2.4 GHz Ubiquity Nano (directional) or Rocket (Omni MIMO) (have both) - When available
  • Connection via US cellular network - When available
  • Connection via Canadian Cellular Network - When available
  • Failover between WiFi (effectively WAN), US Cellular, and Canadian Cellular
Secondary Goals
  • GPS logging and poling from remote location
  • Serial interface for basic vehicle diagnostics (battery voltage, temperature)
  • While failover is a goal, teaming/bonding is not required.

A couple notes:
Much of the system is already in, the central remaining item is the cellular gateway - currently looking at the PepWave BR1-ENT, which has dual sims, cell jack, good support, etc.
While an DC-AC inverter is installed, the network will be running off 12v dc.

Here is the layout:

Thoughts and comments much appreciated!

Take a look at some CradlePoint models. I use them for some remote locations that have iffy connectivity and NEED fail-over and failback, and they've been absolutely bulletproof for years, and they have a very full featureset. Yes, they are pricey. Some of their models support up to 3-4 WAN connections with fairly complex fail over rules, if you want.

We use these in a stationary, office environment:

... and the MBR1400, which is now discontinued but replaced with these (which I haven't used yet):

You don't NEED to pay for any licensing unless you need to cloud-manage them.
