Synology’s DS418j NAS was designed for the home computing market. This 4-bay desktop NAS server is powered by a Realtek RTD1293 dual core 1.4 GHz processor, comes with 1 GB DDR RAM and over 40 TB single volume raw capacity support.

Touting 112 MB/s read and 87 MB/s write numbers, the SATA-based DS418j uses 3.5” HDD, 2.5” HDD, and 2.5” SSD compatible drives and supports RAID 0/1/5/6/10, JBOD, basic and Synology’s Hybrid RAID system.

The new NAS also uses Synology’s DiskStation Manager (DSM) OS, which in itself offers a range of services including backup and multimedia applications. Other notable features mentioned include 8.97 watts consumed during HDD hibernation (versus 21.22 watts in full operation), one GbE LAN port, and two USB 3.0 ports.

Available now, Synology’s DiskStation DS418j has an MSRP of $299.99

I have been holding off on a NAS purchase hoping some new models will be released in the later part of 2017. I'll have to give this one a look. Any time frame for a small net builders test and review?

Would love to see this unit head to head with the DS416J.
