two ASUS RT-AC68U wireless setup

I`m currently trying to figure out what would be the optimal way to do this setup for the best connection speed between the two.
I have two rt-ac68u connected wireless to eachother with one floor sepperating them.
the top floor one is connected to the modem and is sharing the internet.
need tips and hints on how to get the most out of this connection.
computer connected will be connecting through tp.
the router is advertised at very high potential wireless speed, but I`m not getting close to those speeds.

In repeater mode, or bridge mode, you won't see the numbers. Run Ethernet cable between floors, Set one up as router, second as Access Point. Connect via CAT5e Ethernet. If you can't run Ethernet between floors, explore powerline product options.

it`s setup in media bridge mode now on the 5ghz and it says the linkrate is at 1300

I've never managed to have a stable connection with an AC68U for many days before it crapped out on me. Then again it was never connected to another 68U. For how long has it been working?
