Which NAS do you own?

Having just been through selecting a new NAS to replace my 6 year old NAS, I thought that it would be interesting to see how many people are actually using each of the main vendor products on offer. Also given that Asustor is a "new" kid on the block and how they have risen in the Charts (top 2 for 2 bays) - maybe it is time for a new forum section for them?

Researched for a few weeks on this and you should provide some answers like:
-Number of Drives you want to put it
-Type of use
-Home use (incl. transcoding) required yes/no
-Budget range

I got myself a Synology DS415play with 4x3TB WD NAS Red and this is pretty rock solid so far

Still, I considered loads of them...

After doing some research, I narrowed things down to QNAP and Synology - the others are pretty good, but the feature set of the QNAP was the key decision point (Virtualization Station)

Another alternative that many folks miss - Mac Mini - OSX Server is a 30 dollar bolt-on, and works great in a mixed platform environment - I used a 2010 mini for 4 years before moving to the QNAP box - performance is pretty similar...

Custom built windows server. About $450 invested including drives. Works awesome for everything I need and want (which is a fair amount*, but less than some).

I am still considering what to do about a back-up machine at some point. Not sure if I am going to do another custom machine as a back-up server, a NUC with external storage or get a pre-built NAS.

*RDP server, SMB, download box, iTunes server, Calibre server and it might end up as a Minecraft server too (but only using a VM).

For $700 its a killer server. Quiet, efficient and powerful. Running Plex as my media server to many devices without breaking a sweat. Only pulls 25w from the wall when idle. Been 2 years and zero reboots aside from FreeNas upgrades.
