This Friday's edition of the weekly VoIP Users Conference call (http://food4wine.ning.com) is all about wideband audio (aka HD Voice) as mentioned in our review of the Polycom IP650/550 SIP phones (http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/content/view/30547/80/) back in August.

The guest for this call is David Frankel, CEO of ZipDX (http://www.zipdx.com) a commercial service that specializes in wideband conferencing. We expect an interesting call touching on many aspects of VoIP going beyond the traditional phone service, technical standards, device compatibility, etc.

The conference call will be held as usual on the Talkshoe (http://www.talkshoe.com) service for people calling in from normal phones. Anyone with G.722 capable phones (Polycom, Snom, Cisco, Avaya, Mitel, Granstream) or a G.722 capable soft phone (Eyebeam) will be able to connect to the ZipDX conference bridge and participate in glorious wideband audio.

The two conference bridges will be connected. People connected to ZipDX directly will be able to hear the startling difference that HDVoice makes. This is especially true in conference calls where line quality, accents and background noise all cause intelligibility issues. The downloadable recording of the conference will let everyone hear the difference for themselves.

ZipDX has graciously provided a limited number of licenses of the Eyebeam soft phone client for Windows. When combined with a good headset and microphone this can let any Windows PC join the conference in G.722 mode.

These licenses are available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you'd like to try be on this call and experience HDVoice for yourself please send me an email to mgraves <at> mstvp.com.

Anyone who gets a license will need to download, install and test the software well before the conference begins. I'm trying to be available to assist in this process as necessary much of this week.

For more details on joining the call please visit the VUC community web site at http://food4wine.ning.com or my blog.

I still have a couple of Eyebeam licenses left for anyone interesting in joining Friday's call on wideband audio.
