2019 Google Nest Router is impressive

I wouldn't get hung up on whether we should still call it mesh. Wired is always better than wireless, and wired backhaul does wonders for "mesh" performance. I recommend that everyone use wired backhaul. My impression was that mesh buyers tended to be optimizers, more technical prosumer types...

Where did these numbers come from? 8 Mbps is a typical average for 1080p. Netflix recommends at least 25 Mbps for a single 4K stream, and they're absolute masters of compression, incredibly talented. According to this test, The Mandalorian on Disney+ was peaking at 28 Mbps and averaging 16 Mbps...

I don't understand what you mean. Wired backhaul is rather common with mesh systems. Netgear Orbi supports it. Plume supports it. eero supports it. I don't know what options most mesh buyers have, but MoCA would seem to give everyone the option.

Agree about The Bell Curve, red pill, and reality-denial (I'm a social psychologist). But I'm stumped as to what you think Google is going to do to you, or what data you think they're collecting from a router they sell to people. Care to elaborate? I will say that the automatic security updates...

2019 Google Nest Router is impressive

Well, many of us have moved on to 4K HDR televisions and programming. I get 4K from Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+, and even Vudu. Since there's more than one person in our home, we might have two or more 4K streams at once. Also, almost everything I do on the web is faster for having 1 Gbps...

    Negative. It's an AC2200 now.

    goCoax MoCA 2.5 adapter

By the way, how will we install the firmware? Is there a UI tied to an IP address?

    Fiber patch panels and switches

We pay for, and get, full 1 Gbps service from AT&T, up and down. The way video streaming works is in bursts, followed by caching, so a nominal 30 Mbps is not the actual cap. 30 Mbps internet service would be incredibly slow for a modern user.

    goCoax MoCA 2.5 adapter

I bought two of the goCoax adapters and the performance is fantastic. We have AT&T Fiber 1 Gbps service. Here's the network layout: Basic context: two bedroom condo The fiber drop is at the entertainment center nook in the living room. So the AT&T ONT is there, as well as their provided...

    Fiber patch panels and switches

I'm not there yet since we live in a rental. I'm using MoCA to leverage the fiber – it's amazing. But I do want to play and experiment with fiber in the home soon.

New NETGEAR Orbi Breaks $100 / Node Price Point

Interestingly, the 3-pack wall plug system was on sale for only $170 yesterday. It's the one where you've got one regular base unit, and the two mesh units plug straight into outlets like the Plume: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072ZN4PSB/?tag=snbforums-20 I wouldn't pay $230 for an AC1200...

    Fiber patch panels and switches

Thanks. As far as equipment moving around, what are we talking about? Desktop PCs and workstations? As far as speeds, I have gigabit fiber internet from AT&T. I'm seeing a surprising number of motherboards with 2.5GBASE-T NICs now, and 10 gig NICs are available – both 10GBASE-T and SFP+. There...

    10GbE network under $1,100?

Definitely fiber. It's in a developing country so there's the opportunity to build out a network from scratch and leapfrog over DOCSIS cable networking, DSL, etc. I want six fibers going into every home and small business, three duplex pairs.

    10GbE network under $1,100?

Yes, the whole thing, soup to nuts. I was assuming a bunch of 10GBASE-T ports, but I think I may have underestimated the potential of SFP+ ports in this application. I think four 10GbE ports would be fine, not including any ports feeding APs or other POE devices. Cameras will be fine with 1GbE...

    10GbE network under $1,100?

Right, a 10 gig router would be pointless without 10 gig internet/WAN. We plan on 10 gig internet.
