So did this thing ever get straightened out?

    ASUS RT-AC5300

Well, I must say, I stopped back by after pretty much enjoying a refurb Airport Extreme for a month or so, and I am kinda jealous that so many people seem to be enjoying the 5300 after my terrible experience with the 87u. I look forward to continuing to see how the 5300 matures.

    RT-AC87U - Frustrations...

I jumped ship to a refurb AirPort Extreme. Less than half the price of the 87u....and works perfectly as advertised. Less features but wireless printing works perfectly for several days in a row. So nice, both 2.4 and 5 work, range is great. All 15 devices are able to play nicely..... Even on...

    ASUS RT-AC5300

As nice as this looks, I'm picking up an AirPort Extreme tomorrow. Too much pain with the 87u. I'll keep checking back to see if this works as advertised. I do like the idea of smart connect and two 5 ghz for a bunch of busy wifi clients, but really just want reliability for now

    RT-AC88U

I jumped last year on the 87u, and it has been a love-hate affair. I was hoping to get something with all the latest and greatest new features that would last for awhile, but still can't get wireless printing worked out, even with the 9313 firmware yesterday and scheduled reboots. I'm probably...

    Evaluate MU-MIMO performance with 87u

Oh my, I really jumped on this tech way too soon. I thought this stuff was ready for prime time. It's not even finalized yet...It's ironic, I'm planning on updating my Mac's this weekend to El Cap, now that 10.11.1 is out. I don't even update OS's until the first service pack comes out. I'm...

    Evaluate MU-MIMO performance with 87u

I read over at hardware forums that MU-MIMO has been implemented for awhile now. Is that any way to look at that? I have several MU-MIMO clients 3x3 MacBook Pros 2x2 iPhone 6s and iPad Air 2

    87U excitement!!!!

And good reason for praising the efforts of Asus, to continue to work with QTN to try to make things happen rather than just moving to the next product and abandoning customers

    87U excitement!!!!

I just read over at hardwarezone that a new beta will be using the new QTN driver!!!!! I don't do betas, but that has to mean that another official release is in the wings. Hopefully something for me by the new year :-))))

tipping points for # of clients, 87u vs. 3200

Good to know, my old Motorola Surfboard and then a Verion FiOS combo modem/router just worked out of the box...though that was g, then n. I guess with most of my stuff having ac, I thought the area was more mature than it is. I guess the most parsimonious route is to limp along with my 87u. Hope...

tipping points for # of clients, 87u vs. 3200

Hmmm, in your experience, do these devices need several months to mature before buying? I can appreciate that. I'm not the bleeding edge type, I prefer just working, but my router died a year ago after numerous years. I thought that the 87u would be a nice choice with modern tech for five years...

tipping points for # of clients, 87u vs. 3200

It really starts sounding like the AC5300 is going to be a good unit for what we're discussing, Smart Connect or not. Hopefully, it will be better than the 87u experience for me. Is the general feeling that Broadcom components and support are preferable to QTN's?
