Well, I must say, I stopped back by after pretty much enjoying a refurb Airport Extreme for a month or so, and I am kinda jealous that so many people seem to be enjoying the 5300 after my terrible experience with the 87u. I look forward to continuing to see how the 5300 matures.

As nice as this looks, I'm picking up an AirPort Extreme tomorrow. Too much pain with the 87u. I'll keep checking back to see if this works as advertised. I do like the idea of smart connect and two 5 ghz for a bunch of busy wifi clients, but really just want reliability for now

I just read over at hardwarezone that a new beta will be using the new QTN driver!!!!! I don't do betas, but that has to mean that another official release is in the wings. Hopefully something for me by the new year :-))))

Good to know, my old Motorola Surfboard and then a Verion FiOS combo modem/router just worked out of the box...though that was g, then n. Hmmm, in your experience, do these devices need several months to mature before buying? I can appreciate that. I'm not the bleeding edge type, I prefer just working, but my router died a year ago after numerous years. I thought that the 87u would be a nice choice with modern tech for five years...

It really starts sounding like the AC5300 is going to be a good unit for what we're discussing, Smart Connect or not. Hopefully, it will be better than the 87u experience for me. Is the general feeling that Broadcom components and support are preferable to QTN's?
