    I use both bands in general but for streaming to the TV I use 2.4 GHz since the WiFi stick doesn't do 5Ghz.

    I have the RT-N66U. Interesting, I just played around with connecting and reconnecting that I noticed that the link speed for the 5Ghz network seems dynamic. It's 216Mbit right now.

    I can confirm this observation. It's 150MBit on 5Ghz and 300Mbit on 2.4Ghz when it should be 300Mbit on both. Only difference is that I have a Intel Centrino 6300 in my laptop. I guess it hasn't been seen much so far because a lot of laptops and wifi sticks only come with single link support.

    Thanks I think I'll get the modem. I wanted to buy a new NAS server anyway so I might as well just chip in the additional 20-30€. Let's just hope that will bring a solution until the Telekom decides to upgrade my house to VDSL or fibre.
