I am still on version 42095, thanks to the issues with wireless backhaul where the satellites switch to 2.4Ghz backhaul connection every few days. Does anyone have the same issue with this latest firmware? I haven't updated in a while but feeling adventurous :)
Interesting - so the device connected to Firewall needs to be in AP mode, but the other ones in Mesh mode, and the mesh mode one connects successfully to AP mode device? Kinda make sense in a roundabout way I guess. I am also looking at an identical setup, so this helps a lot.
Given endless firmware issues with my XT8 with it switching to 2.4ghz backhaul, I am planning to stick to 42095 Firmware. But since I do not want to keep exposing an out of date firmware to the internet, I was thinking of a different setup. Basically
Modem -> PfSense Appliance -> XT8 over...
I was on 46061 when the issues started happening again. It was in fact stable on previous firmware.
I know with 46061, Asus added support for next gen hardware for XT8, and I think that’s what caused the issue.
So after a few months of working stably, I saw that my XT8 backhaul would return to 2.4Ghz backhaul every few hours (RSSI around -61, so excellent signal). Of course going back to 42095 fixes the issue but that’s not the point - I don’t want to run an old firmware on my internet gateway device...
So those of you having issues with this firmware (especially it reverting to 2.4Ghz), if you have Apple devices turn off the Private Address option for your Apple devices (phone, iPad, watch, not sure if Apple TV uses private address but if it does, turn that off as well). I have see some issues...
No it doesn’t - for almost everyone. Most of us
only change a handful of settings like SSID, maybe backhaul priority etc. All that Linux does is create a new copy of the config that it loads in a new partition and if it sees the file there, it loads those values from that file, else uses...
Had to revert back to 42095. Had constant disconnections, both of my internet (somehow it can’t keep the pppoe connection stable) and also my nest cams were constantly disconnecting. Worked fine for 2 days though and at least I didn’t have issues with backhaul reverting to 2.4 GHz. I did do a...
Hard to say why - only thing is your setup is unusual and hence might not have been tested by the engineers who wrote firmware for the router. Could also be interference on the 5GHz band. You can use a WiFi analyzer software to see if that’s the case.
Can you move B to a different power socket...
It isn’t great. I have found that the signal strength has massive issue on XT8. I have three XT8s (one hard wired to router and two on wireless backhaul). Earlier, I would loose connection where the mesh nodes randomly switched to weak signal state every couple of days. Then I moved my slave...
Was this meant for me? If so, I don’t understand. The WiFi does connect at 5Ghz dedicated backhaul (which can use DFS channels, yes). It works solid for a day or two and then switches to 2.4Ghz. Only way to get it back is reboot the system. The RSSI is -69db at my satellite and link quality at...
