    Direct PC to PC communication

My Chromebook was clearly not prioritising the USB Ethernet Adaptor. I had to disable Wi-Fi before plugging in the Ethernet adaptor to resolve the issue. It maybe the way HP have configured this Chromebook, and it might be different for other Chromebooks.

    Direct PC to PC communication

I am now yes, and this has resolved the issue, allowing me to achieve 100Mbps between the PC and Chromebook.

    Direct PC to PC communication

Disabling the Wi-Fi before connecting the Chromebook via Ethernet does seem to resolve all the issues I was having. Thanks all.

    Direct PC to PC communication

Yes, I am using an Ethernet adaptor for the Chromebook. Fingers crossed disabling the Wi-Fi resolves my issue.

I haven't been home since your suggestion, but I will try it this evening.

    Direct PC to PC communication

Hopefully this diagram help explains the setup: I was expecting the PC and Chromebook to be able to communicate with each other directly through Ethernet at 100Mbps, whilst using the 30Mbps connection to the router for internet access as required.

    Direct PC to PC communication

I understand this. What I don't understand is why the speed between the PC and Chromebook is reduced to the limited speed of the Wi-Fi connection, when there is a direct Ethernet route between the two devices (through a switch, but not through the access point).

    Direct PC to PC communication

Thanks for that. I have plugged the PC and Chromebook directly into the router via the switch and I am able to get 100Mbps between them, so I think both devices are capable. I have also connected the PC and Chromebook together directly (with a single ethernet cable) whilst connected to...

The PC doesn't have wireless but I'll try that on the Chromebook. Thanks.

    Direct PC to PC communication

So even when there is a direct connection between PC and Chromebook via eithernet, traffic will still always go via the router? And hence in this setup, via Wi-Fi?

    Direct PC to PC communication

I am actually using a Sky Q Mini box as the access point, with the PC plugged into the box via ethernet for its internet connection.

    Direct PC to PC communication

Thanks for the reply. Just to help clarify the setup a little bit: The router is located in the living room and is not accessible (I just have the wireless password). I have a connected wireless access point located in the dining room. The Gaming PC is plugged into the wireless access point...

    Direct PC to PC communication

I am new to home networking but this is what I am trying to achieve: At the moment I have a gaming PC connected to a wireless access point via Ethernet. The wireless access point provides the PC with its internet access, and the download speed if fine for general gaming (the router is in...
